Differential fluid!

Hello to all members! let me introduce myself. I'm Paolo and I'm writing from Italy, I'm a happy owner of a 2019 4-cylinder camaro imported directly from the USA. Beyond the transmission shudder that I solved when the car had 48k km, now at 55k km I find myself with the gearbox that jumps from 1st to 2nd gear, not always but often (I'll do the wash again as soon as the fluid arrives). Another problem that I notice is that feeling that the car remains a little accelerated. I have an important question to ask you. Since in Italy the differential fluid recommended by chevrolet (AC DELCO) is not available and given its hazardous composition it cannot be shipped to me, can I replace it with a fluid such as motul or castrol that have the same characteristics? thanks in advance for your help.

HI Paolo, to the forums.

Assuming you have an automatic, what do you mean by "jumping" from 1st to 2nd? Are you saying you use manual mode, but the transmission shifts on its own from 1st to 2nd when you don't expect it to? This would be a transmission issue unrelated to the torque converter and the fluid replacement you already had.

As to the differential fluid, since your car doesn't have a limited slip differential, mechanical or electronic, I think you are safe to use 75W-85 or 75W-90 gear oil from another manufacturer. By the way, if you can't get the AC Delco 10-4032 fluid online, you might be able to find it at an Opel dealer or any GM service department if you have them in Italy. Any chance a service location in Germany could ship it to you or your mechanic?

good morning arpad_m, thank you very much for your reply. you are right, I did not explain myself well. by "jump" I meant that when the car is in automatic or with the paddles it goes from 1st gear to 2nd it is not linear and unnoticed like when it changes with the other gears but it is a sudden change and you notice it a lot. for the oil if available in germany I have no problem receiving it at my address. thanks again

Aha, so it's a jerky 1-2 shift. Below is a service bulletin that describes something similar, can you check if perhaps this is what you experience? Is it only the first 1-2 shift after a cold start, or do you experience it every time?

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...12591-9999.pdf

There is no fix per se for this issue other than driving longer before letting the car do the first 1-2 shift. From the reports in the forum, it seems to me that more 8L45 units suffer from this than the (higher torque capacity) 8L90 in my current SS.

The 8L45 trans my first 6th gen also was a bit temperamental, for example, its 3-1 shift was often rough when decelerating uphill, but my current 8L90 is perfect. What can I say, GM and their transmission programming

Thanks again dear arpad_m,
I was not aware of this bulletin. This is exactly what happens to my camaro. If this is its only flaw, it's fine, it has many other great qualities.

Hello, I use the Amsoil 75W90 Gear Fluid along with a tube of Slip lock (friction modifier). It works brilliantly on my Camaro!

Hi sweet emotion.
Today I bought a quarter of BARDHAL GEAR OIL 4005.
It's a 75w90 for racing use.
I hope it is a correct fluid.
