Change default driving/performace mode...

I didn't know this. I stumbled around in the infotainment display and got into Settings/Preferences/Engine and change my startup driving mode features from Automatic (the default) to track setting for Engine/Exhaust, Suspension and Steering! I didn't know this was an option for driving mode. So now when it starts up it's just like Track mode instantly!

Yup. That has been around since 2017. The only thing you cannot default to track is the drive mode via the selector button by the TC button. It'll default to sport or tour (can't remember which at the moment) after every restart of the car.

So while the steering, suspension and exhaust can be set to track. The drive mode will default to sport or tour. Which will leave the transmission and throttle not in their optimal setting. But since you're modded....that probably doesn't matter.

You know about competitive mode and all the PTM modes, correct? Just asking.....

A thing I’ve noticed but don’t know the name of, in my M6, is that every mode but track holds the gas down a bit on letoff, I presume to hold off backfires, in all modes but track.

I wish I knew the name I’d ask about it in tuning but I digress.

This changes the driving experience a lot. The car starts in last mode except track which reverts to tour. Imho abandoning automatic on that screen just takes away ability to quiet the car, and takes away some of the visceral evidence you’re not in sport

I wish there was a clicking dial or buttons, I detest having to cycle to get to my mode

I think it will stay in the last mode when you turn the car off it the mode was either Touring or Sport. But if you turn the car off in Track or Snow it will default next start up to Touring.

Sport and Tour modes both start with "rumble mode" enabled, which means valves fully open during Cat Warmup. Then if you're in Tour it will close the valves after a few seconds but if you're in Sport it will leave them fully open. So if you turn the car off when in Track mode, yes it will start in Tour, but default CCM tuning still opens the valves on initial start in Tour mode.

I tuned my CCM so that Tour mode closes the valves on start (same as stealth mode startup that you can find in the info screen). But sport mode keeps rumble enabled. This way I can choose if I want a loud start or a not so loud start without having to go into the Info screen.

You know - I'll have to admit I forget about some of this stuff, even after having the car for 5-years. Admittedly - I just turn 4000-miles, so, obviously - I don't drive him much. BUT - I forget about a LOT of the features, lol.

Wouldn’t the throttle still not be track mode? Unless I’m not remembering these cars correctly if you leave the mode in track when you turn off it will not be in track when you turn it back on and the only way the throttle can be in track mode is to physically put the car in track mode.

The throttle has no settings in the "settings" portion of the infotainment center.

You guys need to read your owners manual lol

He was right though, not sure why you directed him to the manual. By the way, it doesn't even contain all the information, here's a more useful summary pic. As stated above, only engine sound management, power steering calibration and magnetic ride control can be individually configured (aka "locked") in drive mode setings.

That's the same way I have mine. I also have my valves set to always be open in Sport.

I set my MRC and steering permanently to "track" in the DIC, then let the mode selector change the exhaust (and the throttle map, though I made my normal and track the same). When I park at home, I swap to Tour before I shut down so it's a quiet start next time. Out and about, I leave it in Sport. So I basically relegated my mode switch in the car to just an exhaust valve switch.
