Katech Oil Pump install

I am about to install the Katech oil pump and VVT delete cover... What is the best way to lift the motor? I AM NOT pulling it out of the car. I do have an engine hoist but I don't have a lift plate for the Gen V LT.

Also, I chose to get the truck pump for higher oil pressure. Has anyone done this and can tell me what exactly I need to change in the tune?

You need to change the tune because you will throw a CEL when it sees the pressures being higher than they are supposed to be. I was going to get the truck pump as well but swapped back to the regular pump. I couldn't find anything that said the higher pressure was good for your car and only people saying it can cause no issues or more issues.

I don't THINK you need to change anything in the tune, I think you just have to disable some codes related to higher than normal pressure.

Any info on doing the install with the engine in the car?

Well, technically you’re supposed to drop it out from underneath in the cradle. I have never seen anyone do what you’re attempting to do so I can’t say whether or not it would work but I know the RIGHT way is to drop the entire engine and trans in the cradle down from under.

I have a 2016 1ss, I pulled my engine out the top with the hood still on. The oil pan needs to come off the engine and there's a lot of cleaning involved getting gasket sealer off. No oil pan gasket just sealer

Yes, I know that the timing cover, oil pan, and rear cover use rtv instead of a gasket. I recently installed a cam in my car without removing the engine, but I didn't remove the oil pan.

If memory serves me correct, you need to remove the pan.

You don't need a lift plate, but should chain to at least (4) valley cover bolts IMO.

FYI, the lift plates are only like $75.

Hope this help.s

Yeah I know I need to remove the oil pan to get the oil pump off, as well as to clean and apply new RTV. I am wondering how easy/difficult it would be to remove it without removing the engine.

You could hang the engine in the car with a support across the strut towers and drop the k member down possibly. I've done it on 4rth gens but haven't on a 6 gen.

In the sense that its all one man work now, doing "in-car" is easier.
Being that you are not doing the heads or cam... I would do in car also.

Yeah. I also did the heads cam job mostly solo. I had my brother help me get the radiator out, since I did all of it in the car as well. It was a PITA

I think by the time you monkey around getting clearance for the pan, and doing shit on your back, you will save time and effort just pulling the engine. But if you haven’t already and it’s in the budget, while you are doing the pump get a Katech C5R chain on while you have it opened up.

Otherwise, with a hoist it’s either use a lift plate or a load balancer. I love the load balancer I used for my hoist, took the engine and tranny in 1 shot. Went back in the same way. Was super easy, too. Particularly since I pulled the engine and put it back in solo.
