To all those folks storing their cars and worrying about the battery dying

Hello everybody, I hope you all are doing well. I just wanted to report some findings so it can help other people out when they are storing their cars.

I recently had a business trip to Tokyo and New Delhi, I stored my car on April 12. I just came back today (22 July) and started it up (AND it was a great surprise)...but it started up JUST FINE!! 102 days (over 3 months). No trickle charger, no fancy gizmos used to charge the battery, hell the storage didn't even have a power outlet. I was almost sure I would need AAA to come and give me a jump but didn't need it. And GUESS WHAT, the car is still on it's original battery (2018)....! I have 45,500 miles and do drive my car 3-4 times a week!

I stored my car at Extra Space in Sacramento if anybody is looking for a nice and safe storage (was roughly $100/month). Only beef was, when I came back, the car was super dusty....I guess they have small openings underneath the door.

Enjoy!!

That's good info to know.
The concern for me would be the climate I live in. Sure, my car is stored in my 3rd car garage, but in the winter here in the Midwest, it can get -20 to -30 wind chills for a bit and just overall generally cold during the whole winter. My garage has a heater, but by no means keeps it 70 degrees in there. The lowest is gotten in my garage even during the super cold wind chills is 42 degrees(so at least stays above freezing) unless taking our daily's in and out of the 2 car garage to go to work..so it still drops to teens and 20's briefly while the door is going up and down. For me, I think the trickle charger is worth it during the winter...car is stored from October-May each year. For those in warmer climates, your info is definitely beneficial!

to be honest, i'm usually always either around Beverly Hills/Rodeo Drive up in LA or when in the Bay, in Palo Alto.....I haven't really seen a lot of homeless people or break ins in these areas, I do read the news and it shows a completely different side of CA than what I experience...(again i'm a foreigner, so I don't really have any biases in terms of states...)! I just stored my car in Sac cuz the storage was $100/month vs anywhere in the Bay or LA, it was almost $500-700 every month!!

I guess the saying is true then, areas that revolve around heavy tourism are always well protected from crime...! I did stay in Elk Grove for a few years on Laguna (worked at Apple), that was pretty clean/crime free area too!

That is some good information, I will be storing from late October to march maybe. Was looking at tricklers but don't really have any power outlet in my garage, Condo underground garage shared.

I was more worried about battery going bad over that time period. I will start it sometimes if dry out and drive around a bit. Anyway, thanks for sharing.

Had to store my car for 5 months twice. Each time the battery had died.
