Need to know your engine temperature
I recently had a considerable amount of work done on my 2017 ZL1 A10, the engine locked up and had to be pulled from the car. Lots of disassembly. Eventually the mechanic found that the main crankshaft bearing had failed. So the bearing was replaced, the rods replaced, camshaft and other internals checked, and the car was put back together.
Runs fine (better than before) but I swear that it is making MUCH more ambient heat than it did before. Oil and coolant temps seem reasonable, but waves of hot air pour out of the heat extractor and come through the firewall. I don't remember it feeling nearly this hot before all this work but maybe it was an I'm just paranoid. I never took "before" temperatures of the engine, so I'm hoping that a few people can point a laser thermometer at their engines to give me some idea of what are normal-ish temperatures. Maybe point it at the top of the supercharger housing....that is getting very hot in my car. Ideally a temp reading after you've been doing some moderate/spirited driving, not racing or track days. Major mods in my car are a Big Gulp intake, ported SC snout, Upper Supercharger Pulley, and long tube headers. Any temperature readings will be much appreciated. |

The headers will allow A LOT more heat to escape into the engine bay if they are not coated. So that could possibly be what you are noticing.

Agreed with King. Some will disagree, but I’d never run uncoated headers on this platform. Watch out for that passenger side wiring harness in the engine bay… have seen a few cars in this board melt that harness after putting in headers without protecting that harness.

I've installed DEI wrap on my headers and intercooler lines, which has made a measurable difference in temps

Thanks for the replies. I should have clarified that all the mods I listed were on the car before its recent service. Nothing was added to the car, the mechanic just fixed the broken bearing. That's why I am perplexed about it running hotter...if it is....

You're probably just paranoid since you just had the engine rebuilt.
As long as the gauges are within the normal range. I wouldn't worry much. |
