Tires or Suspension?

Recently after the purchase of my '21 ZLE, I noticed a sound to rear of car once I hit 120-130mph on interstate. It sounded as though it was coming from the trunk area. It was almost like the sound of a styrofoam ice chest squeaking. Lifted car and lubed sway bar bushings along with other suspension points. The squeaking sound went away. What I am noticing now is a lack of control floaty feeling on pull when moving across lanes at highway speeds. Tires: F1-3R front, R888R Rear. Tire roll due to mismatched tires was mentioned by a local mechanic who inspected the car after initial purchase. Car seems to hug tight curves very well on back roads. I am leaning to changing the rear tires to 3R but reaching out before I do. I have done the same maneuvers in my previous ZL1 without 1LE suspension with awesome handling. Somethings wrong. It definitely limits my confidence on highway. Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

I would put proper matching tires on regardless what the issue is. Running mismatched tires can be dangerous and certainly does not have a performance benefit.

What is the reason you are running missmatched tires in the first place?

I would get those matched ASAP.

If you don't plan on tracking, put R888R on all four corners. Its a better street tire than the 3R.

When my car was brand new, the rear seemed to move around too much, especially on acceleration. I took it in and found it would not align to spec so I bought double adjustable BMR rear suspension bars and had the real alignment set to zero toe. Made a night and day difference.

BTW, the car behaved like that with the 3r's and PS4 Michelins. I'd get the alignment checked first.

A better street tire than the 3R? Only thing good about the R888R has over the 3R not needing to be properly warmed up to get straight line traction and probably tread wear. They're both equally not great in the rain.

If the OP never will track the car then get PS4S (or similar) tires and have tires that can be used in the rain plus have good traction all around.

I'd get 4 if the same tires and get the alignment checked and have it set for the street setting.

This is exactly why the R888R is a better street tire than the 3R.

Thank you. I will definitely get that checked.

Only if someone doesn't mind the loud monster truck whine above 40 mph. It's possible to drown it out with the engine, but that's not really street driving anymore, is it.

I've heard this same thing multiple times from people that tried them..sure they may grip, but if the monster truck/tractor tire sound is indeed there, then I definitely won't be getting them...I hate that sound!. I'll just stay with the Goodyear Supercar 3's . ...

I mean the 3R is a top of the list road course tire and thats why it has such crap tread life.

I'd still go with the PS4S over the R888R because of the lack of driveability in the rain and the mud tire noise they make over 40. I'd still take the SC3 or SC3R over them. Especially if I have a ZL1 1LE.....

I mean, these things are somewhat subjective, some people say it's okay... On day 1 I also thought it was tolerable, but the more I drove on the R888Rs, the more annoying the noise felt, and eventually I'd had enough. My wife is on the quieter side, and we couldn't maintain a normal conversation in the car, she had to raise her voice all the time with these tires. YMMV

Put some Michelin or Continental tires on the car and drive it!
