Hey All,
Have a question and I'm not sure how to proceed forward. Back in 2019 or 2020, I took my car into a shop to get the muffler noise selector deleted, suspension, and new full exhaust and tuned. The car runs great and no issues to report. The only item I did notice with a odb2 scanner that they set the throttle at 30% on all modes (tour, sport, and track) when I start pressing the pedal. Again, no issues to report at all. I am very happy with the way it is running and performs. I now have a job that is over thirty miles from my home. What I would like to do is get a tuner to (if possible, save the existing tune), and put tune on that would help with gas mileage. Alternatively, if possible. I'd like to set the throttle 0% for Tour mode, and keep it at 30%, for Sport and Track. If there is a specific tuner than can achieve this, that would be huge in knowing what to purchase. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! |

Just drive it and enjoy it. You will not get any kind of mileage gain that will offset the cost of a tune, so it will just be a waste of money. I used to commute 270 miles a day. Even with a few bolt-ons and a tune to match it gets 21mpg. You can't do much better than that with 500hp

Oh so officially I'll need one credit/license to tune the car myself, with unlimited writes for changes. That's not terrible then! |

The change you want it easy, but the problem is that the cost to tune your car will be more than you will save in fuel costs over the first 3-4 years.

I would agree - very little to gain from a retune. Drive like there is egg under foot, pump up the tires, reduce your speed...far more impactful to mileage.

I commute about 40miles one way everyday and my 1LE gets around 27mpg just cruising in 6th gear. Just take her easy on the acceleration.

Just to be clear: $400 for the device $250 ($50 x5) for the credits $650 total to have unlimited tunes on that ONE vehicle. How does a remote tune work with this set up? If I go to a shop to have it tuned, can they utilize my device and then no cost for that part of the tune cost? Just their time and dyno time? I'm a newby and just getting into the learning phase.

With that setup you can hire a remote tuner that edits your file and you use your credits to flash the car. If you go to a dyno shop, they will usually have the option to pay them for credits and they use their HPTuners to tune and flash the car. Or most will use your interface to flash the car if you already have credits. The benefit of owning HPTuners is so that you can datalog your car and whoever you pay to tune your car, you own the file and can edit the file for any reason in the future. Some shops might lock the tune if they use their interface. Don't get the TDN device. It severely limits you to specific shops and you can't see, read or write to your car until its unlocked by that shop.
