Service Rear Axle

I got a weird message on my dash display the other day and was wondering if anyone knew if it is anything I should worry about. Here is the scenario:
23ZL1 Manual. I pressed the brake and clutch in and hit the start button. While the engine was cranking, I released the brake and clutch too quickly so the car didn't start. That is when I got a momentary "Service rear axle" on the dash display. After it went out i successfully restarted the car and the "Service Rear Axle" came up again and then went out. It did not reappear since then.
Anyone else ever have this happen or know what this is about?

It is not uncommon for a one-off, flash message to appear and then disappear when turning the car off/back on. Often times these messages occur because the car did something the software didn't like..

Most common of these are the "Service Stabilitrak" messages when you go over a bump or perhaps a little too much throttle in a turn.

I'd still recommend going to the dealership on this one only because of the axle message. It's most likely nothing but worth being safe over sorry.

Also, if you have not done a dump and fill on the rear end, now would be a good time just to see what’s on the magnet and in the in the oil.

100% no reason to go to the dealer for this or pull the rear end plug to look at it. You basically killed the car while it was trying to start and the ECU/BCM/whatever didn't like that and gave you that message.

The most common time you'll ever really see that message if from a nearly dead battery. These cars these days are so heavily eletrically controlled that you'll get a lot of erroneous message from a bad battery.

You can take it to the dealer just because but I bet they wont see anything from the $200 or so diag charge they charge you unless you have a nice dealer that wont charge you.

I agree, I am just an advocate for keeping your rear end clean, it does all the unloading
