I got my zl1 preowned and I’m wondering if I’m missing something.
Is there supposed to be a cover or cap covering the hole where the front tow hook goes?

I tell unsuspecting observers that I have a "James Bond" clone and that is my machine gun access . Seriously , my car when new never came with a cap over the tow hook mounting point .

Mine did not come with a cap/cover either. I put a tow hook in it!

On a related note, can the tow hook that comes with the car be left installed, or should it be removed when not in use? I know it isn't the most aesthetically pleasing compared to aftermarket tow hooks, but I'd rather install it and then have it in case I need it rather than try to put the thing on in an emergency.

Absolutely you can leave it installed. It’s no different than any aftermarket. Just make sure it is secured properly.

None of the year model ZL1s came with a cover for that.

Would blue loctite be recommended on those threads to keep it in place?

The manual doesn't say anything about this because GM, and most people, see this as a only need to use when I need to use it kind of thing.

Yes, blue Loctite would work and also if the threads are long enough to allow you to add a nut (jam nut ) that allows you clock the eyelet where you want it when it’s tight.

Here’s what I’m thinking, this is a cheap plastic cap I cut up to make a mock up. I’m going to look for a 3D printer person that can make it fit in there so it won’t fall out
