Is this new 2.5L turbo 4Cyl a smaller version of the 2.7L in the pickups? Also since they say it has an 8 speed auto, is this an inline setup?

Yes it's the little sister to the 2.7

Well I decided to sell the Tahoe and get something with Super Cruise...

This refresh really caught my eye for my Wifes daily.

No, it's still front drive / AWD available with a transverse-mount setup. Just like its twin, the new Traverse.

Nice rigs though...this is refreshingly upscale as the Traverse is refreshingly handsome. Nice job GM!

Very nice. GM is really stepping up with their interiors. It's about time.

Can I come over and pull the plastic off the screen right quick?

It kinda is. Prior to shifting strategy to zero emissions, GM developed a Cylinder Set Strategy (CSS). Everything from the 3 cylinder engines in Trax / Envista to the 3.0D Inline 6 in the Silverado are designed with the same cylinder set design. Then it becomes a matter of building displacements like Lego blocks and deciding on the orientation (longitudinal or transverse) and fuel type (diesel / gas). The manufacturing processes are common across the board.

It was surprising to see the Ford Explorer switch back to RWD in ~2020.

The Explorer seems to dominate in sales to public safety agencies although I know GM offers a version of the Tahoe for that purpose.

What can you share about any reasons why GM went FWD with the Traverse and left it that way?

The issue is probably more about why Ford went RWD. Ford had owned Jaguar and Land Rover at one point in time. They, along with Lincoln and Volvo, were part of Ford’s Premier Automotive Group. During that time Ford developed a common RWD platform for use by the PAG brands. So if the first iteration of RWD Explorer looks a little (or a lot) like a Range Rover, that’s why.

On the GM side of the coin, Tahoe, Yukon, and Enclave cover the RWD body on frame market. Traverse, Acadia, and Enclave cover the FWD body frame integral / unibody side of the market for the same size vehicles. The RWD are more capable for towing and off-road. The FWD are better for people hauling and fuel economy. The RWD also have long wheelbase versions (Suburban, Yukon XL, Escalade ESV).

Traverse initally was a platform to replace the RWD TrailBlazer line. Oddly enough, the old trailblazer was popular. It seems that Traverse has expanded some to closely compare with Tahoe.

The Tahoe has a few competitors in the market: Armada, Pilot, Hyundai, Infiniti, Lexus. It is in a interesting spot. For one, Tahoe tends to be in the upper retails which could be a disadvantage. People that want a Tahoe but can't afford one may consider its rivals such as Pilot, Armada, etc. This is the area where the Traverse needs to be to compete with the other makers. Tahoe's advantage is that its buyers purchase it for specific reasons; the powertrain, excellent build quality, RWD and 4WD platform, towing.

Just sold my wife's Tahoe and was waiting on the 25 refresh but then noticed the 24 Traverse refresh along with larger size and decided to same some $$.

Then I got crazy and took a look at GMC and was sold on the interior vs the Traverse.
