Horse power gains from a ported throttle body?
Hello all, I have 1 7/8 in long tube headers and a K&N cold intake. I was looking into getting a ported throttle body and making sure the car is properly tuned. Would I notice any difference in the car if I did this? Thanks

Better off with an OEM 95mm TB if you need more airflow than the stock 87mm one. Super easy to tune and better performance than a ported 87.

I have a 95mm zr1 tb ported to 100mm by solar with an adapter plate to a ported lt1 manifold if you are interested. It will bolt to unported lt1 manifold as well, just miss out on a little extra air. Been lazy and haven't posted it up yet, figured I'd throw it out there.

Compared to the msd being roughly $1500 and a Nick Williams tb being roughly $800 I’d say $460-$500 for just about the same gains is well worth it. #budgetbuild |

Comment on putting a 95mm onto the LT1 manifold with a restrictor plate like some of these guys are suggesting. Choking down the 95 by putting it onto an 87mm hole would mean that it's then not acting like a real 95 anymore. Meaning that you would not get the full potential from it. The proper way to use a 95 is with a manifold entrance that is large enough not to block it. This can be done with an MSD manifold (has 103mm opening) or an LT2 manifold that is max-ported by hogging the entry out past the o-ring groove (so then would need to make a gasket for the t/b because the o-ring is now gone). WITH a proper manifold for it, then yes, the 95 is good in my experience. |

As mentioned above...anything larger than a ported 87mm gains you little on a stock manifold. The intake manifold opening has to be opened up to the same size as the larger throttle body to see any real gains.

With the current options available I’d only go 103 with the msd. The lesser plenum volume likes the inlet flow as well.
I’d go ported 87 or stock 95(ported throat on intake) with the lt2
