Fuel Range Inaccurate
Hello everyone,
I was wondering if someone encountered a similar issue before, but let me give some background info first. My ‘22 SS convertible was stolen and recovered, and I had to take the car back as it was in one piece. The car drives and handles and does everything just like before it was stolen, but I noticed there is an issue with the fuel range. Before the car was stolen, a full tank of gas would at least show up as 395+ miles of range. I am very sure of this, but now a full tank of gas only shows as fuel range of 252 miles, and 3/4 of a tank full show 142 miles of range. By the way when the car was stolen, the thieves ripped out the GPS antenna which damaged one of the cables around the dashboard, as they all connect to the GPS antenna. The dealer had to improvise and was able to use a cable as GM doesn’t have any dashboard wiring harness in production for the ‘22. Could this be a programming issue, or has anyone come across something like that before? Note: This post is meant to get some insight, please hold back the sarcastic responses as they are not needed in this case. Thanks! |

Those readings are based on the fuel usage over a number of miles. The unauthorized drivers likely drove it without minding fuel usage and the fuel economy will reflect that. Given time the average economy will improve and the range will increase accordingly.

I believe you might be correct, because when the car was stolen I had just had it filled up with gas and had a full tank of gas. When it was found two days later after it was stolen, it had close to a quarter tank of gas left and they only drove 70 miles or so in the car.

When I bought my car it had a full tank of gas range estimated 280 miles I drove 326 miles with 1/4 still in the car while the gauge stayed at the same number for a while. It learns your driving and previous history then applies it to the ‘formula’ in getting the range estimate

If your estimated distance to empty is 240, you should end up with the trip gauges showing you about 12MPG (give or take) by the end of the tank. If everything lines itself back up closer to where you were, then you're fine. If not, there's something wrong with one of the control modules, sensors in the fuel lines / engine, or both. |

Unfortunately the thieves must have beat the living daylights out of his car, but this is a Camaro, it's not made from cotton candy, hopefully it sustained no real damage.
