Newb here. Camaro questions.

Hey guys, new guy here. I'm looking to get into a used late model Camaro, likely a 2ss. Sadly, I'm in Orlando,Fl, and the traffic sucks, so I was leaning towards an automatic. That said, I am wary about AFM, and as far as I know, a manual is the only real way around it. Am I worrying for nothing? Is there anything else I should be worried about in a used 2ss? Things to pay particular attention to? Thanks in advance, Bobby.

Some believe the AFM issues were resolved and are specific to truck versions of the GEN4 and GEN5 V8s. There is module you can leave in your OBD2 port that will keep you "V8 mode" all the time and defeat the ECU feature. I'm not worrying about it, esp while under warranty.

The cars Im looking at are out of warranty. Ive seen that running it manually will keep afm from engaging too. Is that accurate? Thanks for the reply. I'm looking at a 2016 right now.

With 80K miles I would be more concerned with the A8 transmission. Especially since it was last serviced at a transmission shop and sold/traded about 1K to 2K miles later. A good long test drive to feel for the shutter issue would be wise. I also don't like the fact that it spent the first 4 years of it's life up north. Definitely look for signs of rust. Hopefully the previous owner parked it for the winter.

Your worries are the same as mine. I finally decided to put the trigger on a 22 LT1 A10 a month ago. I ordered a range device to at least keep it in V8 100% of the time although that is still not 100% bulletproof. The lifters could still fail. I figure when it's time to do a cam, I will have all the AFM/DOD deleted (Un-installed) and have solid lifters put back in. As for the manual being the only way around the AFM/DOD, I believe is false because as far as I know, the manual also has the AFM/DOD installed hardware in the LT1 motor. So in other words, when I turn off the AFM via range device, it's exactly like having the manual motor, the AFM is just not activated.
Running the auto in manual mode will not keep it in V8 mode either. I tried that.

I went and drove the 2016. I LOOOVED it. They also had a 2010 2SS, I drove it too. It was a manual, and having not driven a manual in at least 10 years, I stalled it twice, but goTdamn, did it throw me back in the seat. Either way, the manual is not for me. What I didn't realize, is that the mirror camera wasnt available until 2019. That was the thing I really want to see before I decide. Anyone have experience with these? Thanks, Bobby.

It improves the rear view a lot imo, very nice to have. But if you’re somewhat mechanically inclined you can add the camera mirror to your car. I did to my 2016 1LT

His final number on the 2016 was $32,153. I countered with 24. Before I even got home, he texted that hed shave off 2K. No enough. 30k is just too much for a car with 80k on the clock. (As far as I'm concerned)

Hi SurfAnimal. I hope you can connect with a Camaro that you like.

Regarding pricing, I would use a web site like Kelly's Blue Book to see what range you are looking at in your geography, mileage, options, condition, etc. Otherwise, I suspect you are "guessing".

I think the mirror camera is hard to adjust to when you look at it. Maybe it's just me

To the Op, keep looking for a newer year Camaro with less mileage. You may have to pay more but might be worth the money in the long run especially if you plan to keep or hold on to it longer.
