I have a 2020 2SS 1LE 6M with 29,000 miles. Driving in town, traffic lights, moderate traffic. Started smelling raw gas as I was stopped for a light. Drove about 4 miles home, still smelled gas. I looked all over & under, did not see any sign of wetness or drips.Still a strong gas smell, like I was inhaling from a 5 gallon bucket. I let it sit for an hour, cranked it up, looked everywhere again, no sign of leak. I then drove it about 5 miles on a back road, and did not smell it anymore. Any similar experiences?

if its a one time thing, it can be explained by some POS ahead in traffic spilling gas on road and it gets on your car until it evaporates.
if problem recurs: if any gas smell outside gas cap, swap gas cap, dealer parts dept may give you one for free/warranty without inspection. if swapping gas cap doesn't fix it, or if no smell outside gas cap area, leave car at dealer service dept or any ASE shop authorized for warranty/emissions service. it is not safe to drive with an undiagnosed fuel leak. btw, did someone "top off" the gas? ("topping off" is likely to fill/destroy the charcoal canister and cause massive gasoline smell.) |

The 6th gen has had a capless fuel filler system since day 1 in 2015, so it can't be the cap, only the filler neck.

I agree that if you don't smell gas after awhile this is not likely to be an underhood fuel leak, as that fuel will be pressurized and keep leaking.
Spillage in the fill area sounds most likely if smell went away. I think topping off would be very unlikely to saturate the charcoal canister. I had posted the plumbing details for this system in another gas tank thread. The canister is not vented to atmosphere when you fill the car, so it would be very hard for liquid fuel to get into the lines. The vent valve only opens in purge mode when the canister vapors are evacuated to the intake. |

Did you get this resolved? Having same issue. Raw gas smell. Could be exaggerated by track use flinging the fuel around the tanks.

I had a similar issue but mine ran poorly while I could smell gas. Turned out being a bad O2 sensor letting the engine dump raw fuel into the exhaust. Word of warning, I didn't fix it quick enough and it killed my catalytic converter.
