Upper Cylinder Clean for LT Engines

So I was reading an article this morning about the LT engine.
One thing that was mentioned was that a upper clydinder clean should be performed every 10k miles. The article interfered that there was some additive or chemical clean which takes care of carbon build up on the valves. My son has a ZLE and we installed an upper pulley at 8.5k and looked into the intake side of the head and it looked pretty nasty for such a new stock car. My ZL1 now has about the same mileage. So cab can someone shed some light on what is available to do a clean?
