My vehicle won't start! Need your opinion. 2017 2SS
My vehicle won't start! All I hear is a clicking sound now when I press on the Engine Start button. Lights inside vehicle, GPS and entertainment system work fine, headlights and break lights work fine too.
Prior to this happening, I noticed a few things. When I started my vehicle from home (remotely) I could hear it was struggling to start (slow crank). So yesterday I went to grab a few things from a local supermarket nearby. Came back and started my vehicle just fine, however I did notice hot air was blowing out of my AC even at the lowest setting. Then I drove to grab my shawarma wrap on the way back (at the same plaza). When I came back to start my vehicle again, I could hear the vehicle struggling to crank the engine but other than a quick messages about low battery (appeared only once) and check engine light came on permanently my vehicle would not start again. When I stepped outside, I could smell a strong plastic burning smell (no visible smoke). I opened my engine bay, and it seems like the smell was stronger where my fuse box was. When I touched fuse box it was very hot. I used my BlueDriver to diagnose and I am seeing two 2 main codes: P128F (permanent) and P0336. One thing I failed to mention. I washed (touchless car wash) my car prior to this and each time I would do it, smoke would come out of the engine bay vents. I always assumed it was normal, but is it? A few weeks ago a lady tapped on my window when I was worked b\at the same plaza and notified me that I had smoke coming out of my engine. I politely thanked her and told her it was normal thing after carwash. |

As the very first thing, replace your battery, especially if it's still the original from 2017. There is no comparison between powering the infotainment or even the (35W) headlights and trying to crank this massive 376 cu in engine.
While you're at it, you may also want to give a try to adding an extra ground strap, see details here. I wait for the engine to cool down somewhat before washing the car, and never see smoke (steam?) released from the engine bay during the wash.

Agree with arpad. Based on limited information here, battery is best first guess. Voltage measurements would help.
All the electronic anomalies could be due to low voltage (weak battery). |

I agree with Arpad, and don't skip the extra ground strap. It really makes a noticeable difference

Thank you guys. I left it with my mechanic today. I wonder if this could be the alternator, other than battery. Definitely should get new battery.

This will be the +5 for what arpad_m said and to rule out an alternator problem, get out your multi-meter and check the voltage on your old battery.
It's likely around 11 volts or less. Jump start your car and check it again- it's likely 14+ volts, indicating a functioning alternator. Don't shut it off. Now you drive it to Walmart or your mechanic and swap it for a new battery. My 2017 battery is still working but I keep a trickle charger handy to prevent premature death of my batteries and I've noticed the Camaro needs a little pick me up more often these days. IMHO- get a charger while you're at Walmart too. |

Don't over-think! Get a new battery and if you are inclined to spend more money, get a battery tender and use it whenever your car is idle for two weeks or more.

Guys car has been fixed! The starter stopped functioning. That's where the burning smell came from. Ironically once they installed new starter somehow this fixed my AC too.
