Is there really no way to disable codes?

I got Kooks 2inch headers installed and now I can’t auto start my car anymore and have to stare at the check engine light. Is there really no way to disable this? Every tuner everywhere just stop turning this light off?

There has to be SOME way to get rid of P0420

Your tuner has to disable a few codes before start up or they will remain permanent. You will not be able to clear permanent codes.

Well my 2016 SS had permanent codes from the tuner and shop that was installed my headers.

“With Cat delete & deleted AFM valves.

My current ride has no problem because the tuner/shop knew what they were doing. Fact with my own personal experience.

The OP actually already asked about codes in the thread below.

You should read this thread.

Agreed this topic has been discussed at length.

TLDR:
1. Disabling P0420/P0430 BEFORE you do the install is the best way, by far.
2. If you screw up #1, I *believe* your tuner can set it to “No Error Reported” and then turn “off” the SEL. This should shut the light off BUT you will fail any plug in emissions. Permanent code territory at that point. If you live somewhere where plug in doesn’t happen, then you’re fine obviously.
3. On a 2016 (only) I think you can “Write Entire” when you flash in the new tune and get past #2. But that stunt doesn’t work on 2017-up.

Hope my old timer memory is correct on this haha!
