Track closing and new PB in HOT temps!

Ran with a private track rental group at Wild Horse pass in Chandler Az on Friday night as probably one of the last track events there with several venues saying May is the last month for the track before being closed in June.

Never ran with the group so didn’t know the format. Turned out to be just a test n tune, no heads up racing and NO time slips which I thought was bogus.

Luckily I had someone there filming for my 3-4 runs. Most of us were waiting for it to cool off and the first pass at 8:15 it was still 87 degrees and a density altitude of over 3300’. My last pass it only got to 78 degrees. Ugh.

Best was 10.3 @ 137.6 with a poor burnout as the car was heating up and not responding well to the heat. On a previous pass I think I was on my way to a 10.2 @ 138+ and had to lift momentarily when it got loose so dropped to 10.4 @ 136.8.

It’ll be interesting to see what next winter brings with cooler weather and having Tucson and the only place in AZ with a 1/4 mile drag strip, but I think it might push into the 9’s and possibly 139-140?

Settings were-suspension/touring via the display as well as track exhaust and then sport 2 (competition) with 2 quick taps on mode and using MT dr’s. Unfortunately I couldn’t even tell what 60’ was with no time slip but I’m guessing 1.6-1.5? AND NOTHING BROKE!! Yay!

That’s it for me. Just sitting in the staging lanes with helmet on, windows up and race coat on started to put me over the edge. Apparently my car has an aversion to heat as well. Last burnout it about quit on me.

It’ll be interesting to see how long the track stays open but I won’t be racing again until temps are at least in the 70’s. Good luck to you.

Jacket on , Windows down til he points you to you Lane , I put my helmet on car before he pulls me out , and that's like having AC , If you schedule is open try the 2 nite dates , getting warmer that's why the nite dates. Part of Racing , sweating in the drivers seat, at least it's only 10 minutes .

When they close WHPMS park , I'm in the NW valley , over an hour drive to WHorse , and just under 3 hours one way to Tucson Raceway, so I've had my fun for 23 years Drag Racing, I'm almost 70 now , and this was just for good ol times. Too far to drive the Car , and I sold the trailer years back , and done with all that. Hate to say.. Good luck and Happy Motoring

I’m up in Lakeside, so 3 hours to WHP. It’s always a crap shoot in the staging lanes as to how soon you’re up. I leave the windows down till motioned to the burnout box but had some delays that had me sweating it.

There was some absolute corvette ZR1 rockets there the other night. One running mid 9’s @ 146 and then a guy running 8.1 @ 172 and he was LOUD!!! I don’t need to be that fast but just breaking into the 9’s @ 140 would b fun.

Municipalities are complaining about street racing but then removing the tracks. Tucson will b one long drive and probably crowded. I may slip down for a hero run on a 55 degree night but I’m about ready to hang up the 1/4 mile. I’m only a few years younger than you. Good thing we have the 1/2 mile. Heck the road race is gonna be hard to find as well.

Amen to this. It's happening all over the US. Land is worth more than the track generates, so it's a sound financial decision. Unfortunately, that just leaves "Mexico" and occasional half-mile events to get the speed fix. I really don't like winding it out in Mexico, personally. Too much at stake for me if I get thrown in the clink.
