Any Way To Improve 2LT Ride?

Hi, the wife loves the new Gen 6 2LT convertibles. The only thing stopping her from buying one is the fact they ride like a buckboard. Has Anyone had luck getting these to ride halfway decent, changing to 55 series tires, changing shocks and struts??? Our 2012 SS has a much better ride to it.

The 2LT comes standard with 18” wheels and 245/50R18 all-season tires, but 20” wheels with 245/40R20 all-season run-flat tires are optional. The 20” wheels and run-flat tires would have a harsher ride. Which combination did you test drive?

Tires on dealer lots if your basing on dealer test drives are normally way over filled PSI. They're not set at ~32psi or the recommended PSI. I find that to be the norm but it's something to consider in the ride quality.

Get a car that lets you order the MR shocks (non-1LE). Seriously. It is night and day.

I'm debating on keeping my 2LT/RS & upgrading things, including adding the Magride shock system - is that possible?

Adding it to your current car? No, that's not a realistic option. If you want magride, sell your car and get one that has it.

Replacing the run-flat tires with a non-run-flat all-season radial would improve ride quality. It's hard to say if you would be happy with the ride for the money spent.

Maybe test drive a coupe with the 18" wheels just for comparison to see if you like it better. Sometime a dealer will switch wheels and tires between cars on their lot so maybe thats an option.

If you can find the take-off 18" wheels on Craigslist or some other classifieds, your street ride quality will improve. I rode on both 18" and 20"s on my sold 1LS, and the 18" made for a much softer ride over potholes and bumps.

+1 on these.

I had them all, first those simple 18" wheels+tires, then the 20" Goodyear runflats and am now rocking Michelin PS4S tires on 1LE wheels. There is a massive difference between the 20" Goodyear runflats with their near concrete sidewalls and quality non-runflat options, even when they're 20" and 30 or 35 aspect ratio tires.

The stock 18" wheels don't look much, but the tires they come with have a lot of sidewall (50 aspect ratio) and are non-runflat, so the ride will improve significantly with those as well, and you probably can get a takeoff set dirt cheap.

You cannot retrofit magnetic ride control into your car; if that's what you want, you need to trade or sell it and buy another one that already comes with the MRC option from the factory. IMO the difference will not be as much or as tangible as what you can gain from a good set of tires.

Don't forget to buy either good tow coverage from AAA or your insurance co, or an inflator kit, or maybe a spare wheel+tire combo if you switch to non-runflats.

I always check tire pressure before test drives, see tires well into the 40+ psi.

RS cars with the 20" wheels have the FE3 suspension while non-RS cars with 18" have FE2 which is softer, I had an FE2 Turbo base for a loaner when I left my (at the time) V6 RS with the 20's and the loaner was way softer and more comfortable, wheels are a part of it but so is suspension.

Having a 2022 RS vert. I can understand what you're talking about. I traded my run flats for Firestone Potenza RE980. I just keep a can of fix a flat. The ride is better but like people say 18" are better. I like the 20's too much to downsize. After a drive to AZ and back my wife used a small square from her yoga mat. But she has a big back problem. The potholes on Rt. 40 and Rt. 10 are bad and getting worse.

I thought about getting a set of grand touring tires myself to improve the ride, has anyone here used KUMHO MAJESTY 9 SOLUS TA91? It's not horrible with the 20s and run flats on my LT1 but roads are nasty around work and if it could be improved with some new tires would definitely consider it.
