Tune out AFM?

I am kinda considering purchasing a tuner and tune out the AFM, but the car is still new and I know it would void the warranty. so I still debating on it. anyone has an idea how hard the tune is and is it worth it?

or I should just get an afm disabler and tie the afm valves on the gas tank?

How about a Range device? You can keep it plugged in and you'll need neither a tune nor any hardware mod.

that is what is in my mind, but I don't know if the actuator would cause a CEL with its making contact with the zip tie

I believe the range device works with out touching the Actuators. I have mine tuned out, makes the whole driving experience so much nicer.

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. You don't need to do anything else, wang970305, just leave the AFM valve actuators alone, the Range dongle will disable them in software as long as it's plugged into the OBD-II port. An easy and trivially reversible "mod".

Why do you insist on unplugging them? The actuators will default to their V8 state and never move as long as the Range device is in the OBD-II port. This is the whole point, you don't want to trigger a CEL or have to tune the AFM valve error code out etc., it's plug and play and removable without a trace.

sorry for not making it clear, Louisiana's annual inspection requires an OBD2 plugin... i don't wanna have a CEL when i unplug my Range device during the insepction

This^. If you make hardware changes (for example, a different catback with no AFM valves), you have to tune it out *BEFORE* you install the hardware. Or you WILL get permanent codes that you cannot get rid of! To this day, I still have AFM codes from throwing out the stock catback 4 years ago thinking I could just tune it out later…! Those codes show up as permanent codes during my annual inspection but with the SES light off, I still pass thankfully. But I learned my lesson.

See above. Hardware changes = tune needed. The Range is great if you just want something that stops the car from going into AFM mode without making hardware changes.

I have seen people ziptie the actuators on the gas tank and keep them plugged in and has no issue so the ECM still thinks those valves are in good condition. If the ziptie is blocking the actuators when it tries to move then you would get a CEL. I just hate Louisiana plug-in OBD during the inspection

AFM is more than just 2 valves in the exhaust…. You realize that, right? I told you the right way to do it. If you want to screw around with some other way, Godspeed….
