Out of hibernation

Howdy all...long time no post from me.

I had her out today, first time since November 1st. Streets were not ideal, still alot of salt residue but for the most part dry enough. Went into town and filled her up.

Temps were in the mid 30s and the sun was out. Did not get on it too hard, tires do not like the cold streets...soon though.

Hope everybody is doing good!

out of curiosity

what's the point of putting it up for the winter if youre going to slowly drive on salty roads anyway?

Congrats on enjoying your car. Dryness and cold temps are your friends in context of salt/brine. When temps warm up a bit and the salt is washed away by rain, an undercarriage wash will take care of the rest. Cheers!

As a fellow new englander, I totally get having the itch. Some people would drive it year round if it wasnt for the deep snow. First nice dry day is fine enough for most . Im jealous, not hating.

I only drive my car 3-4 months a year.

Agreed... Mine will stay in the storage unit until the spring rains... They are spraying the salt brine as I type. Supposed to get snow from tonight through Mon AM. Spring is around the corner though.

Mine is hibernating from Halloween until there is no salt visible...I don't get the point of taking the car out at this point.

I've been doing this since 2010. Sometimes it's early April and sometimes it's mid-May. Whatever it takes to keep away from the salt.

Michigan has had a mild winter and I've seen a number of "seasonal" cars (Corvettes Porches, even a Lamborghini) on the streets throughout the winter. Cars significantly more expensive than run of the mill Mustangs, Camaros and Challengers. But we've had plenty of rain and the streets have been washed down good. Still, mine sits covered up. I suspended collision coverage on mine for the winter. That way I won't get the itch to take it out. Plus, no hose or outside water to wash it. Shooting for sometime next month.

Well I totally understand the itch, still remembering NJ winters, counting the days till the first decent rain so the salt is washed off the roads... yet I can only agree with these gentlemen, now you got the underside of your car covered in salt powder, so you either wash it off completely (pretty tough job without a lift) or all the salt hiding in crevices will activate with the first wet drive. Not much point in putting the car away for the winter if you don't go all the way and wait till the roads are clean.

I agree with everyone, avoid the urge to drive it, even powdered salt up there will reactivate when exposed to moisture... (I have never even driven my car in the lightest of rain (8,000 miles still looks virtually showroom new, but it is not my daily driver), growing up in Chicago it kills me to see a nice Camaro out on a salty street...)
