6th Gen ZL1 box PCV hoses run to/from???

I've tried searching to find out what this stock part is/does, but came up with nothing. Is it like a catch can, but a box, and then whatever crud / oil vapor it's collecting finally just makes its way back into the air intake? It looks like both valve cover PCV vent hoses run to it, then it runs right back to the air intake shroud? Could it be T-ed as in the second photo with markup and then the over all install of the catch can would allow all oil/vapor to be captured and also get rid of the second PCV hose running from the catch can and the mystery "box"

Thanks

It’s the factory oil separator. The line to intake tube is the inlet side of pcv system.

w.ross thanks for the link to the post ! OK I will leave it alone... But question, does this stock oil separator do some of the "lifting" that an after market catch can does? I kid you not, but since adding my catch can, my car smokes at start up like a two stroke (not quite that bad). But it seems odd to me that so much white/grayish smoke comes out of my exhaust when I start my car and let it idle. I need to get the exhaust buttoned up and let it runs for a bit to see if the oil burns through and stops after a while. But could it be due to the work I've recently done (heads never came off), or the fact that the car is still basically new with only 188 miles on it ?
