Enclosed Trailer
Currently I have been transporting my ZLE on an open trailer which requires me to winch the car up on it because the fenders are not removable and I can't get out once the car is in position. I have the opportunity to purchase a 24' enclosed trailer and I am afraid of the same issue. It is 8.5 inside but that does not include the fender wells. Anyone one using enclosed trailers that can help me out with the logistics of loading the car, will it work? Can I drive it in and still get out of the car or am I still going to need to winch it on?
Thanks for the info Doug |

I've had a few enclosed trailers and the easiest way to clear the door over the fender is with 2x10's. I'll attach pictures to explain. I doubled the left side and that tilts the car and allows the door to clear.

another option is if you only need a couple inches is to bolt some boards to the trailer on drivers side where your wheels would go, like a 2 x12. Cut at an angle where you drive up on it. Looks like the enclosed in your pic already has boards for clearance

Had the same issue with my open trailer, I couldn't find one to buy with removable fenders. I ended up cutting the fender off and making it removable myself. Couple bolts and it's off, not the prettiest thing but functional.

That is an acceptable fix for the door problem for sure. I raced in a bunch of pro series when I was younger so I have a piece of advice. A 24 foot trailer is way too short to transport a Camaro and all of your track stuff you should go with a 28 minimum. You will be surprised how much space you will need if you use cabinets. It will still be pretty hard to get out of the car as there will be less than 15 inches to open the door. If you do not need an enclosed trailer except the door problem you should see if you can get one of these babies: https://www.brianjamestrailers.co.uk...a-transporter/
These are super quality items and I can assure you that opening the door will be easy |

I have considered doing this but the enclosed trailer came up about five minutes from my house, If i am going to have to jump through hops to get it in and out it does not seem like that big of an advantage.

Nothing to be afraid of. It's easy and held in place with some decking screws. This was my before paint. Hauled cars around like that between Florida and Michigan every year.

I use an open trailer with has removable fenders. I was thinking in getting a enclosed but it would have to be pretty long so I can get some cabinets for storage so I decided just to stick with my light open.

I used to have an open trailer where the doors just barely would hit the fenders. I made risers similar to the ones shown here, but they were only for the front tires as that gave me enough clearance.
Now I have an enclosed and I either climb out the window or winch the car in. Winching in is nice because you can watch everything from the outside instead of worrying about bumping into a fender as you drive in. Also eliminates any worry about not being able to load up a potentially non-running car. Enclosed is a huge improvement over open. I call it my "race car box". Tools and some parts are always inside, instead of having to load toolboxes spares each time. I can get home late and just leave it all inside instead of unloading. and it gives you a shaded space from sun or rain at the track. My friends love it when I show up with my trailer cause it gives them a comfortable place to hang out between sessions. |

I have an SS1 1LE and a 24' enclosed trailer with non-removable fenders. Trailer also has an escape door. I climb out the window. It's not that difficult for me if you move the seat all the way back and take your shoes off.
