3 inch x pipe vs stock x pipe

Has anyone installed a 3 inch x pipe and kept the suitcase? Im trying to see if its worth investing in a x pipe. I have currently the corsa variable axel back. Wanted to get a little more sound, however if its not worth it id rather not spend 1k+. My secondary cats are deleted as well btw.

Are you wanting to delete your secondary cats as well? I'm its not worth it unless you go headers as well. past that, the sound difference really isn't much. But adding headers you will notice a significant difference in sound. Deleting the cats will also I crease the sound.

Why would anyone do that?!

Cold starts are loud, but quiet down quickly after about 60 seconds. The car is not grossly loud, but does get loud when you get on the gas. And I have pretty much 0 drone. Its so minute most people would never notice it. That is with a stock axle-back

Warm Start:

Outside Sound at the drag strip / In car sound at the drag strip

Supposedly the 3 inch pipe for better flow which would give a different sound im assuming. I already have the secondary cats deleted with the variable exhaust sounds great. Just wanted it a little louder. I cant put headers on now, I dont want to void my warranty.

Really what is going to change the sound and make it louder is the axle back you put on excluding headers.

Straight pipe is the loudest of course.

No muffler/resonator axle back will make it louder and change sound depending on which brand you go with.

But yes 3" x-pipe in theory, is 1/4 inch bigger than stock x-pipe and will improve airflow though it probably won't be huge if barely measurable without headers and a tune. People say CAI will change sound, but to be blunt I've never noticed a difference. When I got my headers, x-pipe, CAI, it was louder, but had the same high pitched tone that the stock exhaust gives.

Granted I use SE headers, x-pipe, so the videos is what it sounds like on my car. But I believe name brand pipes will differ slightly, but most of the sound comes from the axle-back.

2.75 and 3" isn't going to get you anything, it's not worth doing unless you just want to do it, the sound is going to be negligible and almost no performance.

I would go 3” x pipe as part of a 3” catback exhaust if you know you are going to get power upgrades with headers in the future. Theoretically the 2.75” flows better on a NA stock car due to the higher exhaust gas velocities helping with the scavenging process from the engine. It becomes a restriction when you increase the amount of gas due to the power adders. You start to increase the pressure drop creating back pressure which opposes the gas scavenging from the engine.
