OBD2 Historical Data
Hi Everyone, I got hit at a traffic light from behind in my 2016 2SS. It really sucked, the car had never been hit and was scratchless so I was really, really bummed.
However it was not a high speed crash and no one was seriously hurt. The trunk took most of the impact from a Colorado 1/2 ton and some other damage, bumper, etc. All toll about 7k in damage including ceramic replacement on newly painted parts. Here is my question, can the OBD2 give me historical RPM and operational data? The car is missing 7 miles but what is more concerning is the oil life had dropped to 55% from 85% according to On Star when they started it up last Friday, 11/25. The car was dropped off on 10/18. I asked the Collison shop about the missing mileage and they said they take it to sub-contractors for varies items and drive the car to them, makes sense. I think either one of the subs or during transport someone was seriously racing the car around due to the oil life difference. If it's possible to get some type of historical from OBD2 it would at least put any of my fears to bed. Hopefully I am not being really super weird paranoid because I like my Collison shop but my gut is telling me something is wrong with that oil life drop. Thanks in advance for your help!

I was able to track my car with the chevy app. They drove my car to and from subcontractor locations. And they seemed to enjoy "hard acceleration". But it was all very short distance and besides accelerating hard there was no joy riding.
Your oil difference is likely due to time spent in the shop. I wouldn't stress over it personally. To your actual question I don't believe you can pull historical OBD2 data but I am not sure. But 7 miles seems reasonable to me. |

Yes it can, a GM tech should be able to pull that data if you needed it.

I recently used 17.0 gallons to go 64.8 miles over the course of a week. The engine added 10.1 hours of run time, 7.3 of which were idling. While moving, I was not shy with the throttle. In that time, the reported oil life dropped from 67% to 66%. People think the oil life monitor is supposed to be "smart," but time and miles seem to have the greatest impact. In my experience, it's generally been in the neighborhood of 1%/100 miles and 2%/week. Not always, but it's a lot more likely to drop slower than that than quicker...and when it has been quicker, I don't think it's been more than twice those rates. But, if that's the case, then what caused the drop in your car? That's weird. Unless you know for certain what it read when the car went into the shop and what it read when it came out, I'd be thinking it's probably an OnStar reporting inaccuracy.

The Colorado is not considered a 1/2 ton pickup. But it does weigh 2.3 tons.
