ZL1 A10 — Transmission Whine? Jerk/Clunk?

First thread here, I would like some advice from you folks.

Recently, I’ve been experiencing a weird whine/hum coming near the engine bay — it is noticeable upon gradual acceleration.

In addition, I’ve been experiencing light jerking towards the higher speeds — during both upshifts and downshifts going 50+ mph. Most notably, the car jerks violently from 6th to 5th gear every single time when I manually downshift. Same occurs when you put the car from reverse to drive.

Any ideas on what I could be dealing with? I believe I need new motor/transmission mounts. In terms of the whine/hum it may be deriving from the torque converter; ZL1 is currently at the dealer and I expect to hear back from them by Thursday.

Videos emphasizing the symptoms:

Whine is normal. My 18 Z and now my 21 Z both do it.

As for the clunk. My advice would be disconnect the battery for a day and let the trans adaptives reset.

Or if you had a tune/trans tune I'd have someone look at the TCM tune and see if they set the pressures too high.

Cool. Thanks for the message. I’ll give this a shot once I get my Camaro back.

That P to D shift sounds awful but it's hard to tell on a laptop what the issue could be. If you still have some powertrain warranty on the car I'd take it in.

R to D clunk is not normal.

The rest looks and sounds normal.

Oh and if its your torque converter… per the service manager… waiting on a 3rd converter to go in my trans because the first 2 showed up useless. Without saying it he agreed the reman standard from GM is not there. They don’t care about the warranty parts they give us.

So last week i was on the dyno and the car was fine. After the last pass they asked me to move the car off the dyno, it felt a little rought shifting out of park which it has never done before , move the car a few feet and one of the techs tell me my car is leaking trans fluid. Get the car on the lift and the outputshaft pushed itself out a bit and the outputshaft seal came off and the bushing that holds the shaft in was also pushed out causing the fluid to leak. I did some research and nobody else has seen to have had this issue, it may be worth looking at the output shaft area to see if anything has moved.

Something similar?

I have a 2022 ZL1 with 2400 miles and have noticed a few times when approaching a driveway with a slope I hit it at an angle to avoid rubbing the front and when slowing down and creeping up it I give it gas and it feels like neutral then bang it grabs?

Only time it does this is on an angled slant like this?

That’s usually the rear wheels coming off the ground , chassis is stiff.

I noticed the same thing as well, we have really stiff chassis and sometimes the e-dif doesn't like those types of inclines. To reduce this I put mine in snow/ice mode before entering and leaving and it helps.

Thank you all for your answers — I will take all feedback into consideration. As of now, the dealership told me the transmission may be defective. Luckily, I have GM’s Powertrain warranty. In addition, the dealership is going to thoroughly inspect all components to give me a final answer by tomorrow.

Also my ZL1 is almost fully stock as I installed a Borla ATAK Catback and a Rotofab CAI; no tune.

Uh, if you are to acquire a “new” transmission I would love for you to report it back as soon as you can. I’ve been waiting 3 months for them to “rebuild” my transmission, not a new one, because GM insists they have 0. I’m under power train until 2028 or 120k miles but that didn’t seem to affect my situation any. Good luck

Wow 3 months! I’ll definitely make sure to report it back to you on what they tell me — I hope it isn’t a transmission issue lol. Hopefully your transmission is rebuilt soon. That already sucks having to wait that long.
