E85 and Corrosion

So, I went with the 125rwhp package at Jannetty Racing this past summer. I’m running flex fuel now (E60) and I would like to know if it’s safe to keep the fuel in the tank over the winter. Some were saying it can corrode the fuel lines, etc. Is this true?? Also, I believe E60 is the best blend to run. Anything greater can cause damage. If I accidentally put E80 in, would I still be able to drive the car under light throttle until I’m able to get some 93 in the tank?

I'd ask Ted on that one. Keeping E in the tank over winter is never good. But unless you can drain the entire fuel system, try driving it a bit here and there when the roads are clear. There is no need to "put it away" for winter. Its a car, needs to be driven.

No harm in getting some Lucas Ethanol stabilizer in the tank if your car is going to sit for the winter. That’s what I usually do with no issues.

You can run greater than E60 as long as your fuel system can supply the volume…it’s not going to damage anything.

Yes, you could run E100 lol! Just don’t get into boost with any mixture over what you know is safe for your cars air-fuel mixture under WOT.

E85 won’t really corrode anything on modern car unlike the older cars that weren’t designed for it. it would eat away at those older fuel systems. The problem with E85 and storage is E85 will absorb moisture out of the air way better and faster than straight gas. That’s where the problems come into play with storing something with E85 in it. If it was my car I would run the car as low as possible, then fill the tank up with normal 91 or 93 gas and add a bottle of k100 to the tank. A full tank of diluted E85 has less room for air and less ethanol to absorb moisture out of that air. You will be able to drive just fine next spring. Just don’t go running it like a scolded dog until you get a fresh tank of fuel in it. And you shouldn’t run anything hard out of storage with old fuel in it.

It's fine...E sits in my tank all winter for 5yrs now with no issues. I do use Lucas stabilizer as Josh mentioned as a preventative. I do that for anything that sits including my lawn equipment.

all standard fuel is E10 so no issues...most of the fuel system is composite or nylon anyways. The rail and some of the lines are metal but no worries.

I agree with Josh, got the tip from King last fall when I had my C7 and the stabilizer worked just fine. Our stations here in Missouri go down to about E50 on their winter blend and some of the stations have E30. The flex fuel sensor will compensate for the amount you have in the tank so if you run lower E it will just add less timing at WOT.
