L99 - Need Advice
Tomorrow, I should be picking up a 10 2SS with 7,400 miles on it. Car checks out (buddy at GM ran a report), also clean Carfax.
This will be my 6th 5th gen. I'm very familiar with the LS3, but never owned a L99. Anything specific I should look for? Obvious leaks, body repair/repaint are a given. However, 13 yr old car, 7400 miles, I'm a bit worried about seals and leaks. Any L99-specific weak spots I should pay special attention to? Completely unmodified and unmolested car (so the owner claims). I'll have to obviously confirm with my own eyes Thank you

My 2010 has 3200 miles on it all original and not a single leak of any kind anywhere. The biggest plague of the L99 is the afm lifters. They will probably be a little noisy for a second or two on cold start up but should clear up and quiet down pretty quickly. If they don’t clear up quickly I would pass or automatically plan on a cam swap and lifters. Odds are with that low of mileage you won’t have any issues from the for a good while if ever. The vvt is pretty reliable and a non issue largely.
Also seems L99’s are a little more sensitive to octane rating in the fuel. If it doesn’t run that great fill up from empty with fresh premium and do the fuse pull. Both of mine had regular in them when I bought them and those two things do make a decent difference as far as power goes.

My stock early 2010 SS L99 is over 13 years old with 69,000 miles.
My lifters have never made a sound, probably because I've changed my oil 18 times since new. Keep those lifters clean and I don't think you will have any problem with them.

10 years in my l99. I've gone from stock to fbos ..cammed..geared and stalled. Not one issue. They are such a solid car and can take whatever you can give.

My L99 has been abused, raced, abused again. Damn thing is bullet proof. I literally beat the living hell out of it. Other than oil changes and plugs, not a single failure..ever!
I should really get another one since I gave it to my son to destroy lol.

L99 is such a good platform. I’m making the power listed in my signature, drove the car 2 hours away, did 17 runs at the drag strip trapping 133+, and drove her home with the air conditioning on. Huge thanks for that drivability is the superb work of Jannetty Racing. Top builders for a reason.

Thank you everyone. Picked it up today. It’s been a 15hour day, round trip, but well worth it. 100% stock car, 7471 miles, at a price I couldn’t pass up.

Nice!!! Congrats on the purchase. I see it’s an earlier 09 build. What’s your plans?

Thank you much. Not sure yet. The tires are 13yrs old, so my set of 18 SS wheels and tires are going on tomorrow (for now). Otherwise, I can pretend it will stay stock, but that won’t happen.

My son stepped up and and bought himself a silver SS with the L99 a couple months back. He couldn't stand that stupid afm so I let him try out my range device from my Silverado for a month. I've never had any issues with my range draining the battery and neither did he for the short time he used it. I ordered mine direct from the manufacturer btw. Anyways after a month went by, he gave my device back and bought a diablo programmer. He took and disabled the afm and uploaded a 91 tune and firmed up the shifts. I can say that those 3 things alone completely changed for the better how his car performs vs stock....especially the firmness of the shifts. His car has the Flowmaster Hushpower axleback system that sounds funky when in 4 cylinder mode. He says it was a constantly switching more than my truck does which I thought was always a bit extreme but evidently his Camaro was way worse.
