ZL1 worth the extra over the 2ss?
I will not track the car. With that said is it worth spending the extra 20-25k more for the zl1?

Yep ( if you want the power and forged internals) And this topic has been beat to death.

I just went from 16 2SS to a 23 ZL1. I really wish I made the switch sooner.

Only you can make that decision. I really dislike the refreshed head lights, and love the look of the ZL1.
Worth it for me, but if I liked the looks of the SS....I would NOT be buying a ZL1. Mine will be street driven and I think the SS motor has plenty of power.

This was another factor for me. I loved the look of the 16-18 2SS. Not a fan of the new front end and hood. I can live with the tail lamps. ZL1 having the 16-18 headlights gives me a similar look.

For me... 110% Although this is a purely subjective topic. Just make sure to save some mods for the ZL1. because like most cars, there are always improvements to be made... these cars LOVE E85, and bolt ons... soon enough the motor will be pulled and you'll be doing a cam swap, ported blower / heads... oh wait...

If you can afford the ZL1, then I'd say yes. I haven't seen anyone in this forum say they wish they'd of bought an SS over their ZL1.
I don't feel the need to modify it and make it any faster than it is and it puts a smile on my face every time I hear it start it up and drive it. |

I asked myself the same question 3 years ago. Since I had 0 intention of ever tracking the car, I felt the ZL1 would be overkill for the streets (even though I love the front grill and hood of the ZL1) and felt the $20-$25k would be better didn't elsewhere (even though I could have easily afforded the ZL1)). Been very happy with my 2SS, love the look and it has plenty of power for the streets..

Why, if I may ask? Specifically, what is significantly better with the new ZL1? Please don't say "everything" , is it the extra power, handling, maybe the new infotainment (which is not really ZL1-specific), or something else...?

Looks and power for me. I didn't even consider any other Camaro. You don't need to go 100 mph to enjoy the power. It can be enjoyed at less mph. I also owned /rode a ZX14 for a couple of years. They can break any speed limit without ever shifting out of 1st gear.

I switched from the SS 1LE to a ZL1 1LE. 2 reason for the change. 1st reason is the look, ZL1 to me is just a more aggressive looking car. 2nd reason was because I knew I will want more power in the future and did not want to go thru the process of building the bottom end. So yes the difference was worth it for me.

Yes, it's worth the extra coin.
