ZL1 ROTO FAB VS Cold Air Inductions

I was wondering what the more ideal intake for a stock zl1 would be. I know rotofab has an open intake while the cai is closed and carbon fiber. What would be more beneficial? I do currently own the roto fab but i just might switch it out because of that whistle noise that keeps coming.

Rotofab is the standard suggestion here. I had a Roto and like you hated the screech from it, changed out to the CAI because of the noise. My IATs are identical to the rotofab and it looks significantly better for my preference. If you don't mind the price it's a better option if the noise annoys you.

I can't say for certain compared with other intakes because this is the only ZL1 I've ever driven, but the sound from the rotofab (when you're not in boost) is pretty awful. I'm tempted to change mine out but would need to hear another option in a zl1 first to be sure that annoying sound is not there.

Just a word of caution. I recently returned a Cold Air Inductions Elite Carbon Fiber intake. The underside of the hood was hitting the corner of the air box when closed. I tried to reseat the air box and two of the metal pegs that fit into the grommets broke off. After three attempts to repair the pegs and get the air box to fit without hitting the underside of the hood, I gave up and returned the intake for a refund.

RotoFab is the CAI worth the money in my opinion and no I’m not a fanboy for them.

Could you answer this question for me, since I installed my rotofab at 60 miles on the car... When you're not in boost, at like -5 to 0 vacuum, light throttle, do you hear an annoying metallic-y sound coming from your driver's side?

I have never heard that noise before JBones because I drive with the windows up all during the year. I do notice though the intake noise and supercharger whine more than with the stock intake.

Gotcha. I'm the opposite, lol. I ONLY drive the car when it's nice out, and don't usually get on the freeway, so I have the windows down every time

Yes, that's the vacuum noise that comes with all open element intakes on these cars. Mine was audible windows down or up. Didn't mind it at first but it got old fast.

Yeah I do understand but I can’t stand the wind buffeting noise in the car with just the drivers side window down. It was real bad in the 2010 2SS I had and I don’t like to ride around with both windows down.

It's so bad, because the blower whine and exhaust note on these cars are heavenly, but then you have this weird other noise that is very irritating.

I would look at builders/tuners (Cordes, Jannetty, and Race Proven Motorsports) they all recommend Roto Fab intakes on their builds.
