Effects of Lowering the Front on Track - Track Report
Made it back out to NJMP yesterday on the Pirelli takeoffs. Track temps were high and it was very humid. Running the Ethanol helped me pick up nearly 7mph down the front straight.
The theme of my day yesterday was "Struggle with Oversteer". I noticed that the car had a tendency to oversteer in an slight uphill left hander. This was the worst the car has ever felt and I attribute it to having had lowered the front the full 10mm. As I would approach the Octopus at NJMP Thunderbolt the front of the car would 'squat' as I turned in and no matter how gently I would apply the gas the rear would want to come around, It was a useless corner effectively the entire day. Fast time of the day for me: 1:32.5 - A full 3 seconds off of my personal best. (I can't recall if I ran a 1:31 but I'll have to check). To rub additional sand in my ******, the GT500 was there that whooped my ass at Pocono and although I should have been able to beat him here, handling woes sailed that ship. I had 2-3 spinout saves and 1 off track excursion throughout the day trying to outride a bad setup. ....granted, although I may have still been faster than 95% of the participants, I was not at my best and rode completely like "Poo". *don't lower your front. That setting sux!

A wise mechanic once told me - why do you modify the car? You think you are smarter than the factory? An army of engineers were working hard to make this car as fast as possible on track while maintaining neutral handling balance. By altering chassis geometry you are affecting turn in and understeer/oversteer as a result, and also the weight balance. By lowering front obviously more weight shifted to the front and unloaded the rear, therefore less grip at the back. Honestly it’s great that you’re trying to make the car faster, but I won’t be surprised if you go back to factory setup at the end. On my personal impression, this car handles great bone stock & without any suspension mods. The way to go faster is to add ~100-150 hp and lighten her up by stripping interior (if dedicated track car).

I know performance shops that raise the front ride height slightly as it balances the car better.

On the other hand, the car has been fantastic in the rain today with the front being so soft. I guess if you're racing in the rain you could/would soften the front. |

A video from my cabin.
This will render in HD after YouTube gets done with it. Sound is in full stereo and resolution is 4k. Somewhere in there there's a Ferrari 458 and a C8. Just quick cameos. ![]() Last edited by NG329; 09-06-2022 at 11:54 AM. |

I like the shaking because it really conveys the violence of the cabin at speed. |

I wonder if you adjusted the rear sway bar to the softer setting with the lower front of it would have been better that day.

On the flip side, the car drove fantastic today in the rain with the softish front end. Soft works great in the rain. |
