Hello everyone, I was hoping somebody on this forum can help me with a very specific question. I am ordering a 2023 2SS 1LE and was interested in getting the copper-free brakes since they include larger rotors and calipers (it’s my understanding that would better for a future horse power boost). I asked my dealer to add the $500 upgrade to my order and they told me it wasn’t possible. They didn’t know the RPO code so I gave them “BCD” and informed them that it was a required purchase in California. They then told me it must be only be sold in California because the GM was not allowing that as an option.
Is the $500 copper-free brake option for the 2023 SS 1LE only available in California? Can someone with a 2023 SS 1LE purchased outside of Cali verify this? If it should be possible, how can I help my dealer place my order appropriately? Thank you all!

It's available on SS's for 995.00,and 500.00 on 1LE's. Copper free pads are required in CA and WA, but you can order them in any other state on those two models. Show your dealer on the build configurator, if they still can't puzzle it out you may want to move your order elsewhere.

I believe it's for cars sold in California and Washington only as those states have outlawed copper in the brake pads. I live in Washington and that's what I was told and yes the brake rotors are huge. They pretty much fill up the wheel inside opening up front. Trust me $500 would not come close to pay for that upgrade.

This was covered in another thread I was reading here. The dealer will need to do it through the quick order system for it to get excepted

There’s a lot of threads about breaks. Is the “quick order system” different from the “Order Workbench” used to build my order?

I remember California and Washington having a law introduced a couple of years ago resulting in why they can only get copper free brakes. Other states do have access to them though I was always curious how the copper free ones did in comparison to the other.

I had the Copper Free Brakes added to my order here in Texas, no issues. Your dealer doesn't seem to know what he is doing.

I suppose GM could have made a change if they saw all SS and 1LE were being ordered with this everywhere (especially at that cost)

My 22 LT1 came with them installed and not listed as an option on the window sticker. Only thing it says is under performance: BRAKES, BREMBO PERFORMANCE, 4 PISTON FRONT.

V6-bodied cars come with copper free already, it's just they are small. When you tick the option on an SS, you basically get a big brake kit front and rear for only $1k($500 on the 1LE). OP is trying to get a slice of that heaven on his SS 1LE

I really do want a slice of that heaven! My dealership is not stupid, just maybe lacking Camaro building experience thanks to GM’s limited supply. I’m really looking to improve my vocabulary and understanding of the matter so I can help them help me. I might be the only customer asking for this option so they might not be ready to part the seas looking for a solution to my lonely problem.

Do you have BCD on your workbench order or is it a different code maybe?
