Question Oil Pressure?

Just got my SS 1LE. (Sorry if there is already a thread on this)

My Oil pressure seems to be running higher than most I have seen. I know it may not be a big deal just curious as I am still learning my car.

Generally its at 40 while at idle. on the highway its usually at a constant 50 or slightly above.

I have heard it should be around 30 at idle and unless your pushing it does not really make it past 40.

Is this the case? Any help or general discussion is appreciated!

LOVING the car though!

Is the Oil at Operating Temperature when you are taking the readings? Also, are you just referring to the small gauge in the top of the home screen, or have you double checked with the actual Oil-Pressure page in the performance section of the Dash? I know my SS reads around those levels prior to being fully warmed up.

Yep, make sure you are taking your readings when the oil is up to temp. Mine is close to 40 at idle when cold and settles to about 30 when hot. The pressure while moving will depend on RPM and load on the engine. usually I just look at my idle and WOT pressure once fully warmed up. I get around 30psi at hot idle and 60psi or so at WOT. I also think certain oil filters can alter the reading a bit with their bypass settings.

35-38 psi at startup, 52-55 psi range at WOT

When my ZL1 is at operating temp it usually runs between 20 and 30 but when engine is cold around 30 to 40 and also depends on the temp outside.

Appreciate all the feed back. Yes when its all warmed up it is at 40 right in the middle.. Then once I start driving it never really goes to 40 again.. Usually 42-44. When I give it some gas Ill see it go to 50. on highway its usually steady at 48 or so.. The main reason I was concerned is because I see others idling at 30-35. Mine just seems to be running higher and was curious on if this is something I should worry about or get it checked out. I just hit 1000 miles and had my oil change at 570.

I am not sure actually, I took it to CRISWELL Chevrolet (They have a performance team) and they did my first service.

I only ask because different oil weight and filters can result in different pressures. If it was a dealer oil change then they should have used the 0w40 and a PF64 AC Delco filter. That is what is stock.

I wouldn’t be concerned Davey at this point in time. As long as it doesn’t go beyond 50 and back down to 0, I don’t think you have an issue. Keep tabs on the pressure though as I do, of course my 2017 is out of warranty so that’s the reason I keeping an eye on it when driving.

Appreciate it! Yeah I think I will just let it go for now.. Unless it gets out of control.

Again I appreciate all the feedback! Almost at 1500 miles so I can let it rip!
