Stock exhaust suitcase

So I'm just having an issue with spending $3000 to get virtually the same sound from a Borla or Corsa aftermarket exhaust, for me it's just about sound not weight.

But I did hate the way this HUGE chunk of metal looked from the rear so I thought this may help hide it which it did for sure, 1200 degree high heat paint bomb did the trick.

I want to do this as well. Let me know how it holds up. Did you prep the surface at all or simply spray? What brand did you use?

That's a great move that only a few people have done, I like it!

I am with you on costs still plan on adding a Borla S-Type but the Axleback not the catback. The stock system is too damn raspy for me. I don't plan on spending even $2K, some sponsors have great unadvertised pricing and you save $ with the axleback already.

If sound is all you're after, you dont need the catback.

AWE also sounds amazing, and is even cheaper(no NPP function).

You won't make anymore power with aftermarket and you did a good job on painting it. Looks real clean, I'm gonna do that myself.

Thanks folks - cheap alternative ($7.00) to new exhaust thought folks would like to try it - also, although I would like to take credit for the paint job in full the fact that I have a lift REALLY helped a lot, not sure how it would have gone on my back with car on jack stands

I did the same thing back in 2016 - not long after getting the car. I cleaned the surface with rubbing alcohol and then spray painted it laying on my back - no jack stands. I also painted the inside of the exhaust tips as I got tired of the constant sooty look. Six years later the muffler and exhaust tips look as good as day one. I used high temp paint as well but went with flat black.

OP - nice work. You won't regret painting the muffler.

I've attached a photo of the job from back in 2016 to show the muffler and exhaust tips.

Axleback's are much cheaper than a full catback and will still drastically change the sound.

So no additional prep for the tips? I tried doing the tips in the past on a different car and the paint didnt hold up

Looks freakin amazing. I did this with the rear cross member on my C6. It was natual metal finish when the rest was all black under there. Chevy even went as far as painting just what you could see of the factory mufflers flat black, but stopped half way up them where they tucked behind the bumper. But they did not paint that cross member. So dumb. But this looks great. Thats a lot of area to cover though and I'd be scared of overspray. But this is great. If I ever have mine off, I will do this for sure.

I just cleaned them thoroughly first. Then I cut the toes out of some old socks and slipped the socks over the tips and taped off the very edge of each tip plus taped off the valence panel to control overspray. Then I used the same flat black high temp paint I used for the muffler. This has held up remarkabley well. I have never cleaned the inside of the tips since I painted them. I just took this picture and here is how they look after six years.

Those both look great!

I've always debated doing mine...I wonder if anyone has ever polished it instead? Probably would need constant upkeep...the exact opposite of what I want lol
