Corsa Extreme

Looking for some opinions from people that have knowledge on the 6th gen ZLE platform when it comes to tracking these cars. I’m no pro so I’d like to gather all the info I can before I get my car soon. I had a 14 Z/28 that I didn’t want to modify so I am in the don’t modify crowd. Question is would a Corsa extreme NPP version with a X pipe screw things up on the efficiency side when it comes to tracking or will this mod actually help that 6.2 liter engine breathe a bit better? All inputs are welcome … is stock good enough for sound levels and track performance or will an exhaust upgrade help in both areas?

From my research here, the stock ZLE is more than capable in stock form. As for the exhaust, sound is subjective but the stock system is also more than capable and not much is gained performance wise, just a different note...I cant recall the figures but the stock system is said to run really well in over stock numbers.
If you're a "no mod guy", I don't believe you will find much benefit in a catback.
Just my take.

Thanks. Maybe I’m buying into the YouTube videos of this mod a bit too much.

Supposedly, the stock exhaust system can support up to 750hp at the wheels. I remember reading that somewhere. However, you may gain up to 40hp with headers and a tune.

If you're chasing every last bit of horsepower then yeah, I guess that's understandable. I like the sound of the stock exhaust because I can keep a conversation in the car and also avoid annoying my neighbors or attracting Police attention.

In addition to my Flextune sensor, If I were to modify my ZL1 I would do the following:

700-725rwhp
ARH headers
Magnuson 2650
JMS Voltage Booster (for the fuel pump)

Alternatively, I would consider....
650-690rwhp
Porting the SC + 103mm Throttle body
A colder spark plug
A 2.3 upper Pulley / belt upgrade

Outside of that I wouldn't get too crazy. Maybe a Camshaft swap but that's pretty much it. I honestly don't think you'll ever get more than 750rwhp to the ground in these cars without extensive modifications.

These guys are steering you in the right direction. Catback and/or axle back exhausts ONLY offer a new sound/tone, but no meaningful performance gain. Don't buy in to the youtube hype haha.

So I have a bit of a different take. I changed my exhaust but I replaced it with the Corsa cat back exhaust with NPP and link pipes, my reason was that is was not loud enough for me on track. I could not hear the motor enough on track so instead of looking at the track I was monitoring the lights in the heads up display to get up near redline. I am a no mod guy as well or at least I am a I want to be able to put it back if I do not like it, so I began the long exhausting search for the Corsa NPP system with the link tubes which I ended up finding. I am extremely happy with it from a sound stand point, with NPP it can be very tame and not an intrusion in the cockpit for around town. Even with the valves open once you get in to 5th or 6th the sound drops out and it is nice if you were cruising on the highway. Minimal if any performance gains but there are other advantages. Just my .02.

Good choice, Corsa is well known for their high quality and no drone. I bet it sounds awesome now!!

I will upgrade too, AWE Touring or Borla S-Type I think. Not for the gains(or lack of), just a sound preference.

I’ve always liked my stuff to be OEM so would it be easy to install the OEM exhaust later on if I changed my mind?

Without a tune, I doubt it would be worth it. I personally have the none NPP plus headers and it's loud loud...

From a tracking perspective, the only downside is some tracks have a DB limit and OEM can sometimes exceed that rating. When you remove the suite case exhaust you will leave a pretty big area that will affect the flow under the car that would benefit from a diffuser imo
