Swapping 21" for 20" rims (2012 LT)
Hello everyone,
I'm looking into replacing my 21" OEM black aluminum 5-spoke rims with 20" rims. The tire options available for the 21" rims are too expensive and it's my understanding that there is a wider and less expensive selection available for 20" tires. I'm by no means an expert when it comes to my car, so I was wondering if anyone could help check my understanding. I have the following 21" rims on my car now: https://www.detroitwheelandtire.com/...7-pbp-a-f.html with 245/40-ZR21 tires on each. I would like to replace these with the black 20" rims that were available with the RS package (maybe it was the Transformer edition). I've been looking at these: https://www.detroitwheelandtire.com/...-pvd-f-ow.html (20 x 8"). Here's a few questions I have:
Thanks so much, I appreciate any advice anyone can offer. Last edited by PopDeer; 05-28-2022 at 12:35 PM. |

It’s safe to go to 20” or 22” from the original 21” you had. I had the 21” wheel/tire setup but switched to 22”. 1 thing for sure is an 8” wheel seems quite thin. In front you could run a 9” or 9.5” and in the rear do anything from 9” to 11”. More often ppl seems to run a 9.5/10” search around the forum and you’ll see the different combos available and learn what offset folks have used without tire rubbing issues.
My top pic is 21” 2nd pic 22” Last pic 20”

Looks good in all the pics, but REALLY great with the 20" Welds!! They really wake up the cars look!! Nice bro. And for the op, the 20's are the way to go. Much more out ther to be had combo wise. And lower pricing.

Thanks for the responses! I appreciate it! It’s great to see pictures of the different sized rims, especially including the ones I have! Thanks!
