Buying a Camaro, what do I need to look for?
Hi, a newbie/prospective owner here. I have decided to get a 2016 or newer SS 1LE and I want to learn from this forum if there are any specific areas/common problems that I need to look for. Do I need to worry about higher mileage one? And by higher mileage I meant over 50K miles. What are the areas that are known to fail, what do I need to keep an eye out for? If there is a sticky for this somewhere please point me to it.
I am trying to find one that is as close to stock as possible and I am not in a hurry so I can wait for the right one. Thanks all. EDIT: Forgot to mention that I am looking for one with stick shift. Last edited by EA-sport; 04-19-2022 at 11:12 AM. |

For the most part Camaros are reliable, but me personally I would try for a 2020+ model, simply to avoid the A8 Transmissions shudder known to affect 2016-2019 models. And this issue is a very common issue with the A8's. The A10's so far are not known to have any major issues that I'm aware of yet. 1LE is a great choice, I regret not getting the 1LE myself, but I'm slowly building my car to go in a straight line rather than on a track. But, I also daily my car as well.

I bought my 17 2SS about a year ago from Carvana (awesome experience), car had very low mileage (9k) and it had the transmission shudder, however the warranty was still good and my dealer flushed it out, no issues since. I would check multiple sites (Carvana, Vroom), try to find one with low mileage, most likely will still have a warranty.
I have not driven the newer model that has the A10, however reading the forums, i heard its a much smoother transmission from the A8. Also I decided not to look for a 1LE as I live in NY (pothole city) and have no plans to track it, the 2SS was more then enough car for me, especially coming from a 5th Gen 2LT. Good luck in your search and don't forget to post pics when you find one!!
