GIRODISC Info

Getting ready to switch over to GIRODISC Rotors and I thought I would share with you other road race rats some interesting data that was shared with me by the GIRODISC tech boys.

For reference here I have a 2019 ZL1 1LE brake set up with GOODRIDGE stainless steel brake lines and DTC 70 front pads DTC 60 rear pads. My front rotor size is 15.35 inches (390MM) and weighs in at 32.8 POUNDS EACH. My REAR rotors are 14.4 inches (365MM) and weigh 26.5 pounds each

Brake PAD part number for FRONT DTC 70 pads is HB631U.622 and the DTC 70 rear pad part number is HB194G.570.

Now the Weight savings of the FRONT GIRODISC rotor compared to the STOCK ZL1 rotor is almost 5 POUNDS (28 lbs compared to 32.8 pounds). The OVERALL diameter of the GIRODISC Rotor is the SAME as the stock rotor but the Center area or Annulus is BIGGER on the GIRODISC rotor and is made out of aluminum instead of steel.

What this means of course you CANT use the HB631U.622 DTC70 PAD on the GIRODISC rotor because you need a pad with smaller SWEPT AREA. The pad to use on the GIRODISC would be HB649U.605 (DTC70).

Because the GIRODISC rotors have directional cooling veins they are labeled as LEFT and RIGHT. The stock rotors of course are NON-directional and can be used on either side.

There is even a slightly GREATER weight savings when comparing the REAR Girodisc rotors to the stock ones. The stock rotors weigh 26.5 pounds compared to roughly 19 pounds for the Girodisc rotors. You can use the SAME pads as you were using with the stock rotors on the REAR Girodisc rotors HB196G.570 DTC60 pads in my case.

I was curious as to WHY the front and the rear GIRODISC rotors were the same cost because the fronts were larger. Apparently there is more aluminum used in the manufacturing of the rear GIRODISC rotors because of the accommodation of the parking brake mechanisms.

I will be moving to this set up shortly.
