ZL1 rotors: when to replace

On other cars I've tracked, I replaced the rotors once I saw significant cracks. On my ZL1, I've been surprised how many track days (well over a dozen) I've done w/o seeing any cracked rotors. I am worried though about wear. Do you guys replace your rotors when they are down to a minimum thickness, or do you use some other criteria.

when they hit the minimum thickness or throb on braking its time to replace.

IMHO minimum thickness will not come into play as that is a measurement used when rotors were machined back in the day...rotors are throw away these days. The only thing to be concerned with is severe cracking which extends to the edge and your fingernail can catch. Crazing or checking is OK and expected. The only way you could wear a significant amount of rotor material is to run the pad down to the backing plate and score it metal on metal.

Here are the rotor specs (option code J6H for the ZL1, J6M for the SS 1LE) for the record anyway.

So just to confirm, there is no need to replace a rotor unless there is significant cracking or they've been damaged from the backing plate?

That's the criteria I went by when I owned my C5 Z06.

These ZL1 rotors are way more meaty than a C5 Z06 rotor. Yes, run until cracked or damaged as there is no reason to get crazy with a thickness gauge. I have never been more confident with brake parts/components as I am in a ZL1. If you read the chart above, GM allows for 1.5mm of scoring and 2mm of metal wear which is a ton!
