CARBONADDONS Review

Well we all know the GEN6 could certainly use a little help with INTERIOR upgrades and as much as I hate to admit it, our MOOSTANG boys did a much better job as it relates to the INTERIOR.

Personally I have always been a fan of REAL carbon Fiber pieces in the interior. I do think that can be OVERDONE though and then for me I think that DETRACTS from the overall look of the car and the car takes on a SHINY plastic look.

I am very particular about the look and DEPTH of the carbon fiber which is a reason that HYDRODIP carbon fiber pieces never really appealed to me much.

With all of this in mind I recently installed some carbon fiber pieces from a company called www.carbonaddons.com. They offer for our our cars and a few others REAL carbon Fiber SKINS that attached very tightly and with great conformity to the EXISTING interior trim pieces. To accomplish this they use a VERY thin strong double sided tape that comes already attached to the back side of the skin which you then PRESS on to the trim piece. So basically it is a peel, stick and press process.

Below are sone PICS of a few of the pieces that I have added. The FIRST pick shows the circular piece that attaches to the horn button and a piece that attaches to the BOTTOM of the steering wheel yet has an opening for the SS emblem to show through. I think I will add also the pieces that attach to the left and right trim pieces that are just to the LEFT and RIGHT of the center horn button. They also make a CIRCULAR piece that covers up the circular trim piece around the outside edge of the horn button but for me, I prefer to leave that particular piece SHINY like it is NOW. The SECOND and THIRD pic shows that full console piece that skins over the existing shiny stainless trim piece.

I think I will add a few other pieces BUT probably not any of the larger DASH pieces since I think those can be a little overwhelming aesthetically (personal opinion). Also to me ANY of the circular pieces like for the AC vents or outside edge of the horn button are not quite right from the standpoint of showing off the weave of the natural carbon fiber (again, personal opinion).

Overall though the quality of these pieces is VERY good. Fit also is very good. Color is excellent (i got black but they also have blue and red weave)

Here is a link to the specific pieces for the GEN6.

UPDATE2

Quite frankly I have gotten a little addicted to the look of these CARBONADDON pieces. I added a FEW more pieces you see pictured below.

I WILL be adding some small LOWER dash pieces. I WILL NOT be adding the LARGE dash piece as in my opinion it is a little OVERWHELMING and to me has a PLASTIC look.

In the next few days I will post up the OUTSIDE rearview mirror covers and the DOLPHIN FIN cover on the roof as well as the large pieces in the doors that have cutouts for the accent lighting.

Sometimes it appears to me that I am posting om behalf of myself only but if it helps only ONE person that it's worth the effort to me. ALOT of these options for our cars can become VERY expensive and quite frankly I dont mind spending the money 2-3 times over to get what I consider to be the RIGHT look which I know is purely an individual assessment.

I ORIGINALLY had doubts for example in getting the dolphin fin and outside mirror carbon fiber pieces because I like the DARTH VADAR look of the car (you youngins call it gangsta look or murdered out LOL). But the BLACK carbon fiber lends itself to blending in yet flashing when the light hits it at a certain angle so we will see what THAT looks like.

The FRONT splitter on my car was also CARBON fiber and I LIKED the look but it wasnt practical for track use because it was too easily damaged if you ever went off the track in a 2 wheel or 4 wheel fashion which I will do occassionally. I replaced the lip spoiler THREE times before I decided to paint it a HAMMERTONE black so that it could easily be cosmetically repaired. Now the CARBON FIBER DOES look better but it just wasnt practical. That is also why I would never do carbon fiber lower side valance pieces because they TOO can be easily damaged when tracking.

Anyhow, end of lecture. Bottom line is do what looks right to YOU. Dont be too concerned about what other people think.

Just curious how these compare to the optional dash and shift nob from GM? I have a car on order with the options and your pics have me thinking of adding a few additional pieces (looks good!). And by compare, really just wondering if they are similar patterns or if there would be a bit of a clash?

MY opinion iis you should be fine because of the nature of how carbon fiber reflects the light in the first place. Since the pieces are NOT directly adjacent to each other anyway I dont think you would notice. Now I am referring to the BLACK carbon fiber.

If you have concerns about that I would suggest maybe ordering just one carbonaddons piece and see how that looks in combination with the factory pieces.

I have the carbon fiber vent pieces from them. I plan to add the window switch covers like you have. The shifter bezel I first bought left a little chrome visible between the parking break and mode selector. I didn't realize they made an updated one that covered that part when I ordered mine. I later ordered the updated one.

I do have the carbon fiber splitter and side skirts but I don't track my car so not worried about damage.

Looks good.. I just got the DOLPHIN fin and outside mirror covers TODAY. The outside mirror covers look GREAT.

Now the Dolphin Fin cover is NOT SO good because it interferes with my satellite radio reception so I took it back off.

I did those too, plus the door handle covers. I didn't realize the fin cover messed with the satellite radio.

I use my phone for music so never even bothered with the satellite but now I will have to check it out to see.

I'm pretty much done with the exterior minus new wheels. Still debating on what I want to get.

update 3

OK today I got the door spears in that had the cutout for the accent lighting. A little install tip since they DONT send instructions (LOL). You must loosen the pad that is directly under the window switches because part of the spear needs to for UNDER that to fit properly. You dont need to pull it completely off but just enough to slide that half of the spear UNDER where that pad sits. Do that SIDE of the spear BEFORE the other side

2nd tip. Use a dentists pick or an ice pick to help separate the paper backing off the adhesive side that is going to stick on to the original bezel.

Below are picks of the door spear which is my favorite piece so far.

I have but just TWO more pieces to install. The LOWER dash accent pieces and
a small piece that can be seen at the top of the instrument cluster when you look thru the windshield at the top of the dash.

UPDATE 4

OK guys installed a few more pieces. Lower Dash Pieces which consist of FOUR pieces, These particular parts ARE NOT skins but rather rubberized pieces that have real carbon fiber twill laid on top of them and then clear coated. It matches the other pieces perfectly (see first three pics below).

The fourth piece is a cup colder piece and fifth piece is a piece that you can see when you look thru the windshield at the top of the instrument cluster.

I have also ordered but not received yet the outside door handles and a piece that goes around the AC vents in the CENTER of the car just above the console I will update AGAIN when I install those.

You are right the cf addiction is real. I started out with the steering wheel and some small pieces. My cf dash is original from GM when the car was ordered. Now it seems i cant stop

My opinion only, i think the way i have my cf, it ties in to the interior of the car. From passenger side, down the middle then to the driver side. Some may think its overdone but I'm still not done I still plan on getting the door spears and the armrest. I already have the a/c vent piece and window button pieces on the way.

I have the cf mirror caps which look great but wish they made them go all the way to the edge. Luckily i have a ZLE and the mirrors are black, otherwise it would look idiotic. Also if you get the antenna fin cf cover, let me know how that fits because I've been seeing and reading that that piece does not fit all the way down and you will always see a gap and the color of the car is exposed.

You're lucky you got some great fitting pieces from Carbon Addons. I took advantage of the BF sale from them and ordered a bunch of items. I am on my 3rd shifter bezel. First one was so warped part of it wouldn't stay down by about an inch. 2nd one wasn't trimmed to fit the electronic brake button. Each time i pulled the e-brake button it would just lift the cf cover right off. Now the 3rd one is slightly warped too that it doesn't stay down on the entire lower left. I was tired of going back and forth with Carbon Addons customer service (who are great by the way), that i used additional slightly thicker tape to tape it down. I'm deducing that parts of the cf overlay is not touching the chrome bezel and needed the thicker tape to fill the gap. Now it seems ok but i can still see parts of the chrome bezel.

Another major issue is with the center console overlay. I'm on my second one. The overlay kept coming up right where the knee bolsters are and the underneath of the overlay is an entire piece of tape. The tape is hardly even called tape just tacky not sticky. i also had to use another type of double sided tape to try get it to stay.

I followed all the install instructions, used heat gun etc and still wont stay down so be aware if you order the center console overlay.

AC vent console piece added

OK just added the AC vent center console piece. It goes well with the shifter knob and center console shifter piece. Below is a right hand and left hand side PIC

NEXT to be added will be the surround piece that goes AROUND the start stop button and the pieces that surround and go behind the interior door handle latches and THEN I think I am done

That would then make a total of 17 pieces added to the car I think it dramatically improves the look of the car especially in the interior cabin area.
