I think of a catch can like a gun. I'd rather have it and not need it vs need it and not have it.
We can see too far.

Not a bad idea to have one. But the LT1 engine seems to not build up deposits on the back of the intake valves nowhere near as bad as other DI engines.

Tons of threads on this. All the pros and cons are discussed and debated over and over. Do they work? Yes. Do you need one? No. I have one, ran one on my LS2 GTO as well. Always a couple table spoons of oil and impurities in the can every time I change the oil. Nice to see, but you can live without it.

Not needed.
The LT1 has been in production since 2014 and photos of high mileage engines show that the valves are ~clean. A catch-can can/will void your warranty. If not properly maintained, it will impede crankcase ventilation. The issue of the can filling, and preventing ventilation, is amplified in cold climates because the can will fill with condensation in one weeks time. I had this happen on my 16 and the oil became loaded to the point that my eyes burned when I drained it. Never again

I understand the reasoning for catch cans, but if they were so beneficial I always thought that OEMs would starting putting them on their engines.

This was discussed ad nauseam also. It would add another regular maintenance item that, when forgotten by the average user, could result in disaster. Also, if it's only beneficial for you, the customer, in extending your engine life and not reducing your performance post powertrain warranty, manufacturers wouldn't care much, would they. We are talking about GM that still uses halogen turn signal/reverse bulbs and refuses to install auto dimming on the passenger side mirror just to save a few pennies.

I've had the heads off of my motor at 16k and 33k miles. The deposits on the valves were noticeable, but not bad at 16k miles without a catch can - I've posted photos on several other catch can threads. The valves are noticeably cleaner after 17k miles with the can. It should be noted that the can was installed when I added the cam and blower, which should accelerate the formation of deposits.
As many have stated, the can is not a requirement, but it definitely does reduce the accumulation of deposits on the intake valves, which to many justifies the cost and the minor hassle of maintaining the can.

I had a lot of gunk on my valves when r&r the heads, was a pain to clean and put catch can on after. If you are FI you should have a catch can, small expense and reduces oil in the combustion process.
