Opinions on different zl1 options?
I was going to get a zl1 that was coming into stock at a local dealer but it ended up getting there before gm finished buyback for my bolt so now I'm waiting for another one to come in but that got me thinking that I should just do a factory order for one instead and get the options that I want instead of talking myself into getting one with options that I'm not 100% sure on.
What's the opinion here on these options. Sunroof, this one I'm not sure one, I liked it on my past cars but those were German luxury sedans and idk if I would want that on a sports cat. Visible carbonfiber hood weave, this one almost every dealer has on zl1s so I talked myself into it but now im thinking if I do a factory order I probably won't get it since it's not functional. Navigation, I currently use Google maps since bolt doesn't have nav but was thinking of getting it here, does it show directions in hud? Hows the nav and traffic data? Red seat belts I thought about but not sure if I prefer them or not. Also zl1 from the dealer was going to have pdr but I'm not sure if I want that, I will be installing a dashcam since pdr isn't good for that, and I don't plan to take it to the track often so it doesn't seem like it will be that useful to me |

Sunroof robs head room and adds weight.
Red seat belts are a nice touch depending on your exterior color. I wanted them, but thought they would look goofy against rapid blue. PDR I opted for myself because I felt if I regretted not getting it after, it's not something that is easily installed.

The "Must Haves" for my ZL1 were the exposed weave carbon fiber hood insert, PDR, red seat belts, and manual transmission.
I bought one from dealer stock that had everything I wanted plus the sunroof. I don't use the sunroof much but it does let in extra light so the car doesn't feel like I'm sitting in a dungeon. If I were to order a ZL1 now, I'd still skip the sunroof.

Is there a way to close the sunroof shade so it doesn't let any light in? |

Yes. You can manually pull it closed.

I got the PDR due to the fact it seems like a cool accessory even if it doesnt get used all time and it gets rid of the front collision warning, which i found to be annoying in some of the rental cars i have driven. Not a fan of the park assists with stop either, as they make it near impossible to park close shrub, fence or taller curbs.
The more carbon fiber the better, i kinda wish they would of had more available from factory, like a carbon fiber roof option. I didnt do the nav because of the wireless apple car play and could just use maps projected from phone. Also about seat belt color, regardless of the color of car, as long as brake calipers are red you can justify the red seat belts (pretty sure thats the theory when optioning a Porsche). plus all ZL1s are red stitched so it wont look out of place IMO.

I bought mine used with red seat belts, sunroof, navigation and the exposed carbon insert. I didn't realize how much I was going to like each one of these options. The only thing I wish it had was the PDR since I had it on my SS1LE and I used it as a dash cam. I would say go for all the options except nav. I use the navigation occasionally but I use google maps through android auto the most. Navigation has to be updated and costs too much for the update so I wouldn't strive for this in a new car.

Not a fan of the sunroof but the exposed weave carbon fiber hood insert and PDR are good options. The red seatbelts are nice but depends on the color of the car. Nav isn’t a bad option as mine came with it as an option and I have used it a few times in the 2 years I have owned the ZL1. Just depends on your tastes for the options on which ZL1 you buy and remember the more options on them the higher cost of the car.

I'll second the Nav and the carbon fiber hood insert options. I don't like sunroofs at all in a sports car. I also don't like how it gets rid of the "reverse mohawk" shape of the Camaro's roof. With a sunroof the roof is flat and smooth and less interesting looking. Without, it has a couple of "double bubbles" that look cool.
I like having the Nav since I'm not really an Apple CarPlay user. I use the maps regularly. CF hood insert is a must have, IMO. It looks really good, esp. if you don't get a black car, so the CF and other black trim stand out more against the paint. I'm not a fan of the red seat belts, personally, so that's an easy choice for me not to pay extra for. I also got the carbon fiber shift knob. I wanted something to differentiate the interior. It's OK.

- Sunroof - depending on whether you prefer the reverse mohawk roof line and additional headroom vs. opening up the cabin a little bit. I would skip it on this particular car.
- Red seatbelts - kinda of cool but as mentioned looks better on certain colors. This was a nice to have option but not required. - Nav - 2021 and newer have wireless Carplay/Android Auto so if you prefer those apps then I would save the $500 on Nav unless you really want the turn by turn with HUD integration. It is nice but just easier for me to use my phone and never needs to leave my pocket. - Carbon Fiber Hood Insert - I like this option but I would not pass on the car if it didn't have it. It is $600 for the option but you can buy it online for $1,300 if you really want to add it later. Not a deal breaker as it looks good either way. - PDR only if you track, otherwise it is a very expensive dash cam. Since I bought a 2021 and had to pay close to MSRP I was glad mine was not loaded up with options that you get very little resale value on. I used some Chevy points and bought the suede console cover to add the missing suede in that area as well as the ZL1 floor mats.

*I'd skip the PDR if you're not going to track it often. Save some $ there. *I wanted the the red seatbelts just because, haha. The car is black so it went well. What color are you thinking? *Sunroofs are nice. I'd have gotten it if mine wasn't an LE. Have you had sunroof's on your other cars? They are great. (edit - sorry totally spaced on the fact you mentioned this in your post.) *I still just use google maps. Old habits die hard. Just my .02 Last edited by Metal_AF; 11-15-2021 at 11:05 AM. |

Back in 2018 red seat belts were only optioned with the color of the car. I wanted blue and it didn't have red seat belts. I do not like red seat belts but to each their own.
Mine came with PDR, sunroof and exposed carbon fiber. I do track my car so PDR, if you're not tracking your car then there is no reason to get it other than, like it has been mentioned, it gets rid of the front collision warning. Which can be annoying. Must have's though....is either manual or automatic. Everything else is just accessories that do help resale but that's about it. 1 thing I say is that in car nav is garbage. You can buy a Garmin for under $100 with free map updates for life and you can move it from vehicle to vehicle. My mother in law has a 2016 Equinox with navigation, but guess what? It cannot be updated. Called the dealer and they said go to this website and get it from there, we cannot do anything. The website also showed that it was obsolete. That's just a fair warning to those that say an in car nav is a must have. |

No on the sunroof. The roof line is much better with the double bubble look when you don't get the sunroof. I also don't like sunroofs because of all the heat they let in.
PDR. Probably not. Carbon fiber - YES, of course. Nav - no. |

I would not order one with a sunroof unless you REALLY love using a sunroof. Mine has one but unfortunately, I didn't order my car, it had everything I wanted except it came with a sunroof so I'm stuck with it. I do use it occasionally though. Exposed carbon fiber hood insert was a must for me, it just look more upscale. Red seat belts are hideous to me, I wouldn't even buy a car with red seat belts. I wanted PDR even though I don't use it a lot, I like knowing its there when I do want to use it. Nav is unnecessary in these cars especially since you need a paid subscription to ONSTAR to use it, not like Dodge products where your Nav works as soon as you drive it off the lot and no subscriptions.
