Paint Quality

From what I can gather, its no secret that the paint quality on these newer Camaros is "meh". The other day I was detailing mine with some brand new microfiber rags. Well the tag (I usually remove) on one of these rags scratched the paint. Its not like I was putting pressure on the rag or anything. Just wiping off the detailing spray. I have tried everything to buff out this scratch and no luck. I have never seen such delicate paint on a car. Is this a thing with Cheverolet paint or did I just get extra unlucky?

I've had no complaints about paint quality after 3.5 years. If your paint was so fragile a tag on a rag scratched it and it won't buff out you're telling some stories.

Never had that issue, and know for a fact a microfiber tag has hit it at least once. Did you at some point buff it and forget to add any form of wax?

My paint quality has been good too. Not perfect, but good.

Issues I've seen on the three

2016 Nightfall Gray Metallic - The trunk lid contacted the body and wore the paint off on the corners. Was an early build issue with the Camaro but not very noticeable in this color.

2018 Crush orange - There was more paint orange peel than my 2016 or 2020. Wasn't obnoxious but it seemed like they didn't try as hard on the non-metallic

2020 Rally Green Metallic - There was a spec of something in the paint between the driver's door mirror and the window. My Xpel installer had a tool to shave it flush. Not noticeable unless I was detailing the car

Paint quality on my 2018 is par for the course, good uniformity with no blatant flaws like overspray or missed areas, but a lot of orange peel and yes, the clear coat is ultra delicate (at the same time, it also isn't very difficult to buff or polish).

I have found some runs in the clear coat on a couple of the Camaro's I have had recently. My first ZL1 had hardly any paint on the front bumper lip. Honestly now I actually go out of my to just over look any minor imperfections. Over all the paint is okay enough for me.

I have the same experience with my Camaro and my 2021 CRV. As bad as I THOUGHT the Camaro paint was going to be, the Honda is an order of magnitude worse.

They are both ceramic coated, but even so, the Honda paint seems much lower quality.

Ya... I'm sorry, but I'm not buying your story OP. The tag on a microfiber towel, with no effort or pressure put a scratch in your paint so much so that you can't buff it out. Sorry, not buying that. I'm not saying you did anything wrong, but I'd venture to guess that the towel had some debris in it or there was something on the car that you wiped over and didn't see... Anyway....

Like others... I have had not issue with the paint on mine.

The paint on my Camaro has been pretty tough. Auto car washes, then those DIY stalls, and parked outside. Looks good in the sun when clean, though HFFA.

paint on ours is not perfect as there's a few imperfections that can be seen, mostly on the hood but it's not bad.

our '16 silverado paint is just as good. seems thin, few spots that show flaws and front has chipped easily. hoping the chipping doesn't happen to the camaro.

our '14 sonata tho frankly is quite a bit better than either product we own from chevy. almost no paint chips from rocks and it still shines as good as the camaro even though it's 6 years older and hasn't ever had a coat of wax applied. we bought new.
