California smog BS
I live in CA (my bad). CA smog testing is now failing cars that have modified tunes on there cars. I want to get my 2018 Z set up for e85 and would like to know when I have to get smog tested in 2026 if I can have the computer flashed back to factory tune for the test and then flash it back again for e85? Is this possible? If so then my next question is it expensive? I know that it is a long way off and I am hoping that the after market industry will come up with away around this. I just wanted to bounce this off you guys.

Any ECM tune changes can cause you to fail. Leave it alone....

From what I have read, they are not testing if your car has ever been tuned. It is only if you are running a non stock, or non CARB tune at the time of testing. If all your mods are easy to put back to stock, this is not a big deal. If you have visual failing mods, you will still fail (like LTs, missing cats, etc). If you have mods that require a tune, you will obviously not be able to run the stock tune and pass with the mods that require tunes. |

I say if you're worried, just leave it stock, that way they hopefully won't bother you in 2026 (although that's far off, any new legislation might happen in the meantime).
One thing you can do at this point is to take initiative on your end.
