Passenger Mirror Issue

My passenger mirror works fine but has pulled away from car a little. I’m the only driver and haven’t hit anything. I’m enclosing pictures. It is a 2020 with 7800 miles. Is this warranty if I haven’t damaged it? Thanks

If it doesn't jiggle excessively when you try to move it back and forth with your hands I wouldn't worry about it. It couldn't hurt to mention it to the dealer and ask them to note it in the record just in case. Seems normal though after looking at mine.

It seems like there shouldn’t be the wide gap at the bottom, there isn’t one on drivers side mirror.

Yes it’s covered under warranty. I would take it to dealership and let them repair/adjust it.

Honestly, I wouldn’t let the dealer touch my car unless it’s loose. Camaro’s in general have pretty poor fit and finish. On the other hand, the performance is great. Take the good with the bad….

As has been said, it’s under warrantee. You just have to make the decision if it’s worth the effort, or the potential downside of a hack working on it, before bringing it in for service.

Hard to tell from the pictures exactly what is going on, but I'm guessing you compared to driver's side and there is a noticeable difference.

Yes, this is covered. There will be a gasket where the mirror (plastic) meets the sheet metal of the door. Access to repair this is by removing the inner door panel and readjusting the position of the existing gasket, which may already be deformed. It is possible (but unlikely) dealer would order you a new gasket, as it is probably part of a mirror kit.

Removing the door panel involves popping the fasteners and probably peeling back a water barrier. Others who have had this apart can verify. Sometimes popping the fasteners breaks a few. The dealer will not replace the ones they break because most people will never see that. When I remove interior trim I work pretty slowly, but I'm not expected to have this door apart, mirror repositioned, and all back together 45 minutes start-to-finish.

To reduce the risk of the dealership scratching or damaging the interior plastics, I would first check to see if the nuts holding the mirror are tight after carefully removing the trim covering them up on my own. Or roll the dice and take it in to the dealership for warranty work.

There is another risk factor, the mirror is prone to whistling at 40-50 mph when it isn't properly attached. We had a few threads here about this. I'm not sure I would risk this unless absolutely necessary.

So I need to make sure it is attached properly?

Yes, several others commented that undertorqued mirror bolts can cause a whistling noise, see these threads:

...needless to say, these aren't particularly strong parts, so going overboard isn't recommended either

Again, I for one wouldn't touch it if the mirror works fine and you have no issue other than the slight gap that may have been there from the factory (check some comments in the above threads), but of course it's your car at the end of the day.

That looks like a heat issue to me… ask a good body shop for an opinion before using the dealership. These guys know their craft.

Assuming you included me among the "fearmongerers", far from it. I just like to pick my battles, and gave OP additional information to help him make a decision.

Transmission shuddering and GM changing the fix every three months? You bet I'll keep taking the car in again and again and demand perfection about this expensive and sensitive powertrain component. A perfectly working and noiseless side mirror has a tiny gap between it and the body? Not so sure. We understand the musem rule and the risk of letting a dealership do warranty body work on these cars.
