How much HP with a tune

Hey guys,

How much HP on you expect on getting a tune with only an intake and exhaust. I don’t want to void my warranty and was thinking of getting an extra ECU and doing a tune. Is there much to be gained or do I need to go with a pulley?

The extra ECU won't help. They'll see thru that like a clear glass window. If you don't want to void your warranty then you'll pretty much be limited to cat/axle-back, un-tuned cold air intake, and that's pretty much it. You could do ported TBs but that won't give you much. And you could remove the secondary cats but that won't do much either. My suggestion is to wait until you're completely comfortable with the vehicle's durability and then just go for broke and void the warranty and mod it to the moon.

Tune = Zero Powertrain Warranty.

Dont try to commit warranty fraud by hiding a tune which GM clearly indicates will void a warranty. Just own it and do it or dont.

Just a thought, depending on how you use your car, maybe think about a Throttle Controller. Really wakes up the car and makes it feel faster even though it technically isn't any faster. I didn't believe in them until I got one and wow, what a difference. Otherwise, agree above, don't tune the car if you want to keep your warranty. I have an axle back, ported throttle body and a throttle controller and the car is a blast. Sounds and feels MUCH different than stock.

Okay, sounds like I need to say forget the warranty and just go for it. Guess it’ll be a pulley and a tune now lol

Any tune will void the warranty. You cannot get around it with an ECU swap.

You'll get zero HP gains with any add-ons, without a tune.

Id wait OP. A basic tune will be good for maybe 20hp. Exhaust/ pulley, ect will net you more, but a tune on a pretty much stock care isn't worth it.

From what I've read and seen, the biggest GAINS are torque tuning. The throttle will close and spark will be retarded if the ECM calculates more power than what GM Engineers deem beyond their limit, so when we get into boost weather in a while, if the car thinks it's making more power than it should because of higher air density, it will close the throttle, or pull timing back until the torque calculation is below the limits. So - you might not see much gains in power at peak, from a mostly stock car, but you might find better power under the curve if the car was limiting throttle/spark and you make the appropriate adjustments to keep them following what you command.

I wouldn't do a pulley...I would do a flex fuel sensor(E60), rotofab, headers, and tire. Then get it tuned by somebody that knows what they are doing and it will run better and more consistent then all of the bolt-on pulley 93 octane cars out there.
