Track alignment

I'm having a hell of a time finding someone who knows how to do the track alignment down here in Ft. Lauderdale. Geez, it's not rocket science.

My dealer supposedly has an alignment "expert", but he was clueless.

There is one local dealer that claims to be experienced doing track alignments, but they want $300, because they say it's a ver "involved" procedure. Give me a ****ing break.

Can anyone recommend a shop in the Ft. Lauderdale area?

Thanks.

I’m not sure about Florida. But I’ve had good luck with Firestone in the past, I’m using Grays tire now but they might be fairly local. Firestone does lifetime cheaper than 300, be polite and ask to work with the tech to get specs you want, tip him after and theres usually no issues
If no luck from there try a local forum, I think they have regional on here, even Facebook may have Florida camaro group

Print the track alignment page from the track prep manual, circle your car and say this is what I want. The problem is these guys do what the computer tells them to. If they don't see the track settings in the computer, they become instantly lost. Also make sure you get an alignment report with the before and after numbers.

Just FYI, I would only recommend doing the track alignment if your car is a dedicated track car and don’t do much street driving. The oem street alignment will easily carry the occasional track day without all the excessive wear we are seeing in this thread. IMO the occasional track day driver will not even notice any small advantage gained by doing the track alignment (myself included). I put 5,000 miles and multiple track sessions on the oem SC3s that came on my car new, and with the factory alignment still on the car. My tires still have about half tread life left on them and are wearing quite evenly all the way across.

That’s exactly my point lol. If you don’t drive much on the street then the track alignment is great for you.

For someone mostly on street and occasional track day I really don’t think it’s necessary.

I think $300 for a proper track alignment is cheap given what it does for performance. (IF it is done correctly)

I'm also in the South FL/FT. Lauderdale area. I would hit up Redline Motorsports. Their alignment shop setup my car and ever since it's been on rails.

none of this shit is necessary but it does really help on track performance...even at -3.0 front vs -2 it was a huge difference on track

From my research and my own experience, most of the shops capable of doing the track alignment will charge you more. $300 is a bit too much, but I personally paid $200 for it, while the same shop performed an alignment on my buddy's Mazda6 for half of that amount, which is standard around here.

Supposedly, there is something that needs to be done if you want to get the front camber past -1.5. Even the shop I used thought they couldn't do it until they remembered that supposedly some older Chevy's also use the same procedure to get more negative camber.

Again, from the forum, it looks like you are actually fine with using the Performance Supplement's track alignment specs on the street. I will probably check my SS 1LE's tires soonish to get an idea.

The stock alignment is assuming if you are driving like a grandma. I think some people here spiritedly DD their car with track specs without issues.

Here is what I do - Go to Goodyear, talk to the tech…take your specs, the computer for hunter shows ZL1 track as a setting …use that if need be. The work to do the alignment is pretty straightforward- the only tricky part is the front with the screw to adjust. I like the Goodyear and my tech, have a 3 yr alignment for $250 and tip him $20 each time….
