295 or 305 on a 19x10.5 square setup?
What's up guys, new to the forum. I know the old tire/wheel debate has been flogged but could not find a consensus on this and mostly older posts. This is for a track setup on Apex arc8 wheels. Done 4 track days on stock. Plan is to get 12 in this year on the square setup. Wet performance not a concern. only 5% daily driver - almost all track and canyon......
Stock suspension on GM track alignment. Will consider tweaking that based on how it feels with square setup. 305/30/19 seems a little big on that rim to me, 295/30/19 seems more appropriate, but quite a few guys have gone to 305. My experience is more is not always better, but I'm not as experienced as many of you. I also have found that some brands run larger so that might be a consideration..... Open to any tire suggestion but right now I am considering: Goodyear Supercar 3 (I have enjoyed this tire a lot on stock setup) Proxes R888 Advan AD08 Re 71R (most expensive by some margin) Thanks fellas, any advice appreciated but especially those that have run a similar setup...... |

I did 305 Re71s on a 19x10 up front for AutoX and they definitely feel a little sloppy. I also wouldn't use Re71s for street driving. They are a one trick pony and will overheat after the first lap on track.

Sloppy describes the feeling of too much tire perfectly...305's on a 10" is really pushing it. |

Fitment wise , yes a 295 is better, and a bit better response I would think. Note Re71s aren’t made anymore. Maybe a few around still though

I have used both sizes. Both sets of g3's..Not a huge difference..295 feel very slightly quicker turn in.. 305 feels very slightly more stable in turns. They are certainly not squishy on a 10.5inch rim..either size will work just fine no issues. You will need longer wheel studs and a spacer to run a 305 upfront..g3 is a great track tire that wears very well. It was designed for these cars...if you want better laptimes go cup 2but they won't last as long. Number of days will depend on your pace, driving style, and track surface..I'd recommend going max camber front usually around -2.5 and -1.5 rear. Tire wear is near perfect..

Thanks mate, great info. Makes perfect sense, on the stock wheels/alignment I blew through the G3's in 3 days but it was all outside wear. Feel like I could have doubled the life with the alignment you are suggesting.....
Already got the ARP extended wheel studs and spacer arriving tomorrow. Think I'll go with 305 G3's since the local tire shops are struggling to source the 295's. |

Hello,
I've got a new set of 19x10.5" square for my SS 1LE. I am looking for track/autoX tires.... but I have the same question regarding 295 or 305.... I've been having a hard time to find 305 tires, since the SC3's are not available anymore. Since I don't have a lot of experience on the track I don't think the SC3R's is a good tire to "learn".... Does anyone run 295 square? I found the Continental ExtremeContact Force on 295 for a very good price... does anyone know this tire? |
