LT1 muffler delete NO npp
After reading countless threads on the subject, I decided to take take the plunge and do the muffler delete. I am bone stock, the remainder of the exhaust is all factory. I was tired of how quiet the camaro was after a year of owning it. The catback prices were outrageous and the axlebacks were not worth the asking price to me. I went to a reputable shop and they had mandrel bent pipes in stock which were used to replace my muffler, my factory single tips were reused. Now for the results:
Zero drone at any rpm, in any gear. Now, I live where it is flat at sea level, so I will never know if it will drone where there are hills. I am very aware of what drone is, and it does bother me. No rasp, went WOT a few times, did not sound raspy at all to me. Glorious sound between 4k-6k rpm As quiet as factory in the cabin cruising on the highway. I hear the runflats and the wind over the exhaust. The pops and gurgling are more abundant and louder ( I enjoy this, you may not) It does not sound at all like a truck with straight pipes as other forum members have opinionated. Zero loss of low end torque, the factory non npp muffler on my 2020 is not very restrictive, all the back pressure is still there between the headers and the cats. Overall, I am 100% satisfied with the muffler delete, zero regrets and I would do it again in a heartbeat. I feel like I got the sound I was after without spending much at all. I know this thread needs video and sound, and I plan to update it later with a clip, but for now, maybe my experience will help out someone who is on the fence about doing it. For what it's worth, I highly considered cutouts but I am very happy I went for the muffler delete instead. This experience was on a M6 (manual) LT1 with no npp. What happens with an automatic or an npp equipped car, I will never know. Last edited by LT1ornothing; 03-08-2021 at 03:49 PM. |

Being the lightest v8 gen6 camaro at 3610 lbs, the muffler delete has brought me down to 3580 lbs verified by the scale. So the muffler delete offered the sound I wanted and provided a marginal improvement in power to weight ratio. Feels like a win win with some bang for buck factored in.

back when before I purchased. Did not know back then what hand I would have to play. Was hoping more for providing positive feedback for what is normally considered a taboo modification. But I knew I would receive backslash for not fulfilling the trim I was initially after instead of the trim I had to settle for at some point or another. Still happy though, im $10K richer settling for the LT1 over the 1LE. I never see a road course, im a street car that will grace the strip from time to time. |

I've been a big supporter of the muffler delete and agree with everything you said except the no drone. You definitely have drone, stop lying to yourself. Still 1000% worth it over the outrageous axle back prices, though non NPP systems aren't nearly as bad cost wise.

I have a 2021 LT1 with no NPP, I put on the Borla S axle back mufflers and the car is definitely loud enough and could border a touch too loud on cold start and full throttle. I cannot imagine muffler delete not being irritating .

I've been fighting this same battle. I really have no desire to make the car significantly louder but at the same time I would love to lose the heavy suitcase muffler and relocate the battery to the trunk so as not to add front weight distribution. Also not looking to spend 1K on an axel back or have shitty crush bent pipes from the muffler shop.
