Permanent Battery Tender

Permanent Battery Tender

Yes, there has been many threads on this topic and different set-ups. I thought I would share my set-up because I have not seen this set-up before. If someone has done this set-up my apologies.

NOCO GCP1 15 Amp 125V AC Port Plug Power Inlet with 16-Inch Integrated Extension Cord is what I used and you can get it on Amazon and make the riches man in the world even more richer. The set up is near my muffler so I wrapped it with some heat shield. I shorten the wires and but round head connectors on the end of the wire to connect directly to the battery. The biggest task is making the hole big enough to get the plug thru. The lower valance you have to make a big enough hole to insert the rear part of holder cover, make it snug and with the 3 screws provide makes a tight clean fit. It’s easy to plug in and you hardly even no it’s there unless it was pointed out to you. (IMO) You just make a hole big enough in the metal right next to the battery breather tube.

I chose to mount the camaro lettering upside down so the extra amount of cord wire is in the rear and in reality you don’t see it anyways when it’s all button up.

Hm, intriguing idea and great execution, thanks for the pictures Blackbeast.

The only thing I'm on the fence about is never seeing the LEDs on the tender unless I remove the battery cover in the trunk liner, which I probably won't do during the winter. This is the one part that's nice about having the unit itself outside the car.

Yeah that’s true, it’s giving me second thoughts of moving it to be visible. Maybe closer to the other side of the negative battery post. So when the small square portal is taken out it’s visible. Thanks for the input and I will probably move it over there.

I connected straight to the battery then made a small hole in the panel next to the battery so I can open trunk, connect, close trunk.

Mind the sideways pics, not sure why it does that when I attach them.

Good idea! I have one in my bass boat to charge the batteries. You’ll have no problem with water intrusion . That is a solid set up.

Great idea on the tender install...BTW.

I have posted this on this forum before, but several years ago my C6 Z06 was plugged in down in the garage to a tender. We had a near miss with lightning. Not a direct hit by any means. That pulse came thru and smoked the tender, and caused $3200 plus dollars in damage to the car. It blew up several modules and the BCM. I still keep my camaro plugged in, but now if I think there is a slightest of a chance its going to be a thunderstorm..I unplug the car.
Luckily my insurance covered the repairs, but not willingly at first.

Thanks for the positive comment. The tenders come with a inline fuse protection for that reason. Maybe I will ad a surge protection block on the extension cord just in case I wouldn’t want that to happen to my car.

Nice setup on the install BlackbeastSS2. I'll probably wait till the fall to set one up. I'm thinking of buying the NOCO Genius5 and installing it on the garage wall. I'll hook up the cable permanently to the battery and when the car is covered for the winter I'll run a 10' extension cable from the tender to the permanent connection. Do you know if M6 or M10 eyelets are needed?
